DRAWLLOWEEN DAY #6: Boitatá - Brazilian folklore (Tupi tribe) Boitatá = "firesnake" in the Tupi language ("boi" = "snake" + "tatá" = "fire")
I decided to make a less known myth cuz we have some rad folklore here not to be shared.
Legend says once there was a period of non-ending night and torrential rain in the forest, causing a flood. A giant snake sheltered in a grotto wakes up with the flood and, being the only animal able to see in the dark, comes out, starving, looking for food. It then eats other animal's eyes, gathering these eye's lights on it's body, becoming a fiery snake. It dies, and returns as a flame entity serpenting through the forests and fields, protecting them from arsonists. This myth is the Tupi tribe's explanation for the "will-o'-the-wisp" or "ignis fatuus" phenomena. I confess I was a bit lazy with this one, drawing snakes and forests is hard and I'm getting tired... and it's only day 6, I wonder if I'll make it... ... D:
