Drive-by book ask questions! I'm liking 2, 10, 16, 22, 30, and of course 31 :D
2- what’s the worst book you’ve ever read, and why?
Once upon a time, I bought a bunch of books on kindle at once. Several of them were very poor choices- The Innkeeper’s Son and Thinblade have since blended in my memory, mostly because they were your stereotypical fantasy ‘coming-of-age’ book, with every cliché you could think of crammed into the first half dozen chapters. There were others from that time, and maybe if I’d read them at a different point in time I’d have enjoyed them, but the only good decision I made in that series of purchases was The Lies of Locke Lamora by Scott Lynch.
10- the book(s) you bought because the cover was pretty, and whether it was worth it
I got the Firekeeper series by Jane Lindskold because eleven/twelve year old me was super excited about wolves, and they did turn out to be good books. The Warrior cat books were similar- cats are exciting and upon further investigation I found I had no shortage of reading material to catch up on. They kept me entertained for lots of fifth/sixth grade.
16- the book that you don’t dare reread for fear it won’t be the same any more
Honestly I don’t really have that fear. One of my favorite things is going back through books I’ve already read and learning more about the world/characters/etc. I love finding details I missed the first time thru.
22- the book you finished even though you hated it, and the reason why
My Ántonia- school. I rarely detest books we read for school, but that one I hated with an honestly rather irrational passion.
30- the book you read the blurb of, constructed a version of in your mind, and were promptly disappointed by once you finally got around to reading it
Gotta go with the Night Angel trilogy here- it had always sounded interesting to me, and it came highly recommended by one of my friends, but what I expected was not at all what I got (which is weird, because looking back you get pretty much what it says on the tin with those books).
31- recs!
I’ve got mostly fantasy with a side of sci-fi for you:
The Cycle of Arawn by Edward W Robertson- a good light fantasy read, far from the most complex one out there but still a fun book. The characters are the best part (also there’s only like half a dozen people on here who’ve read it. We need more victims)
All of the Cosmere books by Brandon Sanderson- ranges from as straightforward as Cycle to Wheel of Time levels of backstory and characters
Tears in Rain by Rosa Montero- a really interesting sci-fi book about androids and stuff- it’s on my way too long reread list because I know for a fact I didn’t appreciate it as much as I should have the first time through
Light & Shadow series by Moira Katson- strange little fantasy trilogy, but an interesting read
If you want more I can scream about books for hours. Thanks for asking!
