Hi! I'd like to ask, since I've seen these on a few other albums as well—why are there the SIDE A and SIDE B things? I don't really see them on CDs or anything.. Are they from vinyl records?

One of the music mods suggested we organize the album with side A and B format because they saw that the homestuck albums did so as well. We also felt that some songs had similar themes that could be split in two sides for vole 1 and 2, so we organized them with a side A and B format for that reason too.

Soo... Could you make a compilation of all of Prase's hair styles? (in YCOCYO) They change their hair so often (I believe you said once every installment) that it's kinda confusing! Also, the last one was really sweet!

99% of the time i don’t do requests but sure what the hell

actually everyone but rufus and the canon characters changes their hair every story or so since they’re all years apart, but i actually post everyone’s designs on my art blog under the tag #the six souls so you can look at that in the future

I really like how with Preppy!Chara and Greaser!Frisk at first it was literally just a change in how they both dressed (I'm pretty sure that's how it started out??) but while it's still at its core a retelling of Undertale, so many people are so emotionally invested in it (including me) and it's great! P!Chara and G!Frisk are actually pretty different from the common canon interpretation.. They've kinda switched aspects of their personalities!

aaaaa im so glad!!!! yeah, this comic is pretty much me inserting all my favorite canon/headcanon facts, like the red locket, the different armors, and how someone would realistically react to everything that happens to frisk!

and yesssss i also wanted to go away from the common canon interpretation a bit! everyone (including me!) goes “WELL OBVIOUSLY FRISK IS A CUTIE PIE WHO WOULD NEVER HURT ANYONE”, but, eh? Like, nothing has shown that frisk actually IS that nice? You could have a frisk who actually killed monsters, and thats technically not wrong! Frisk can actually be really mean to some monsters (heckle snowy, insult some monsters), and YEAH OKAY ITS YOUR CHOICE AS A PLAYER BLABLUHBLAH (im blahbluhblah-ing to me) but i feel like those choices wouldnt be there if frisk wasnt capable of doing them? IDK THATS WHAT I THINK

I also wanted to show an amnesiac chara, because ive actually never seen an amnesiac chara before, but its probably the most logical conclusion? either that or they’re just REALLY GOOD at not showing any emotion to you killing Toriel and stuff! i wrote ☆a lil essay☆ about it a while ago, about how if you go pacifist, do nice things, they remember the good things and help you out against asriel, but if you go no mercy, they remember all the bad things, that asriel pretty much messed up their plans and thats why they kill him, that kind of thing. So P!chara is pretty much inspired by that lik essay, haha!

to end this long post you didnt ask for (or did u), ive had most of those ideas for a while, but i couldnt... really... add them to my original frisk and chara, since they already kind of have a personality that doesnt go with those hcs? so when i drew P!chara and G!frisk i was like “HEY...... YOU GUYS..... WORK PERFECTLY FOR THIS”, so here we are!

Why I Like Mages

Among other things, Homestuck is a “hero’s journey” story. But not all its heroic journeys are the rags-to-riches stories of people like Luke Skywalker, Bilbo Baggins, and John Egbert that we generally think of as “heroic”. In his Poetics, Aristotle describes a tragic hero, one who doesn’t end up in a better circumstance than they started; rather, they start out in relatively good circumstances but end up with a worse fate than they ever deserved. The tragic hero’s story engages an audience through their reactions to their increasing, undeserved, and often self-caused misfortunes.

Homestuck canon’s Mages, Sollux Captor and Meulin Leijon, are both tragic heroes. They have knowledge and abilities that ought to make them successful and keep them out of trouble. But in spite of their advantages, they both end up helpless and hurt, due to not only other people’s actions but also their own poor judgment.

Sollux, the Mage of Doom, is one of the few Homestuck kids to have some idea of the stakes and path that the game presents before he hit “enter.” He’s the one who programmed Sgrub from the ruins Aradia found, after all, and he’s aware that playing the game will result in both the continuation of the troll race and the deaths of all of its players. He’s an excellent hacker, well-versed in viruses, who can hear the psychic screams of the IMMINENTLY DECEASED, so that ought to give him a boost in knowing what actions can or will lead to someone’s demise. He ought to have held all the cards--and for a while, he thought he did.

But Sollux makes a lot of poor judgment calls early on that result in him being unable to use any cards for his own advantage. He assumes he knows more than he actually does, and ends up swindled by Aradia’s lies through omission to cause the end of the world rather than save it. He sends Karkat a virus assuming it will never be activated, but of course Karkat calls his bluff, resulting in the death of everyone’s lusii. And once the game that Sollux created has started, he is unable to back out. Fate--known in this universe as Doom--runs along and carries him with it.

And from there on out, Sollux experiences a Humiliation Conga of violent misery. He’s knocked out into the mind honey. He’s killed by the Vast Glub. He’s knocked out again, and blinded. He overexerts himself moving a meteor and ends up half-dead. He’s prototyped into Erisolsprite at one end and blinded again at the other. He has no control over his life or his death. It sucks. But, in a show of personality strength, he keeps trucking along, staying sarcastic and witty and making, if not the most of, then at least something out of whatever shitty situation he finds himself in.

Meulin, the Mage of Heart, is praised as a “miracle worker” of matchmaking, but can’t seem to use the knowledge of relationships and identity that she must have in order to pull off such miracles to help herself. Her primary relationship is with Kurloz, who is not only responsible for her hearing loss but regularly mind-controls her. There are whole sections of her life made of decisions that she can neither control nor remember. And when she isn’t the victim of a bad relationship, she’s the aggressor, roping Horuss into an emotionally manipulative, unhealthy moirallegiance. Meulin has made very poor judgment calls regarding both the people she trusts and her own ideas about what is best for other people, and she and the people around her are suffering for it. Like Sollux, she keeps trucking along, as cheerful as she's ever been. However, I feel less comfortable chalking this up to a strength in her personality because in many cases she just plain doesn’t know that bad things are happening to her.

If Mages are the active Seer, like we’ve assumed in the past, it seems that they understand their aspect--Doom or Heart--whether they want to or not, or whether they can actually put it to good use or not. They’re like superheroes who never really get the good end of the stick of their own powers, and there’s definitely something appealing about that helplessness. In real life, people have information and talents that we don’t always know what to do with, or find ourselves able to do anything useful or good with. And everyone, at some point, has felt like the universe just plain wouldn’t let anything good work out for them.

The end of a tragic hero’s journey involves realizing how their own failures in judgment got them to their current state of misfortune. However, it’s unclear that either of the Homestuck Mages see their situation as their own fault. Sollux has a lot of self-hatred, but that’s not the same thing, and Meulin doesn’t seem to be aware that she’s suffering. As a result, they learn nothing about themselves or the decisions they’ve made, but nor do their situations ever completely get the better of them. Because they never acknowledge that their losses have anything to do with them or have any significant meaning, their losses cannot defeat their personalities. The Mages keep on keeping on, and their stories never end. In a strange way, it’s inspirational.
