More ER nurse Lando:
"Should I call him?"
George was lingering by the door. His entire body tense with anxiety and barely concealed anger. The veins in his neck were straining, and if Lando wasn't in pain, he'd be making a joke about that fact.
It was just hard to joke when his head was aching and he was waiting on scans to see the damage to his face.
"Dont", Lando winced as he placed the ice pack back against his face, making sure to only cover one of his eyes and his nose, "Daniel's on shift till tomorrow. Let him be. He doesn't need to worry about me, bad enough Vettel made you call the police"
George glared at him and crossed his arms over his chest. His nostrils flared a little and Lando so badly wanted to laugh but he knew that'd only make his broken face ache and his headache worse.
"Of course Dr Vettel called the police. A patient fucking assaulted you because we're understaffed and run off our feet, and they didn't like the waiting times", George argued back because it was the truth and it was infuriating, but Lando understood it at the same time, "He shouldn't get away with it Lando. You took a five minute break after we lost that little girl and came back in with blood pouring down your face. You have a concussion and a possible broken nose. Possibly a fracture in your cheek bone too. I get that he was angry and frustrated and scared, but that doesn't mean he can hurt people"
Lando sighed and closed both of his eyes. The light was starting to irritate his headache. His face ached. The feeling of blood drying on his skin made him want to run to the bathroom, and despite it all, he could still hear those parents sobs when they had had to call it.
He was tired and in pain, and George was right, but Lando just wanted this shift to be over.
"I know, okay? I know", Lando muttered, feeling George sit next to him as his friend took his free hand in his and squeezed it softly, "I'm just tired George. I'm tired of it all"
"You don't mean that", George tightened his told on his hand, "It's a shitty shift. You're not giving up on me, Lando. I won't let you"
Lando didn't answer. He just gripped George's hand tightly because he was right. It was just a long shift. Lando loved his emergency room just as much as he hated it on days like today. He couldn't see himself anywhere else.
Even when it hurt and when it was thankless, Lando loved doing his job and he was damn good at it.
"I still think you should call, Daniel", George muttered after another few minutes of them sitting in silence, "Mostly so I don't have to deal with him tearing apart the trauma bay the next time their ambo rolls in and he notices you're missing"
This time, Lando did laugh even if it left him groaning in pain and had George fretting over him.
"And you thinking tell him someone broke my face is going to stop that?"
