I was super brave yesterday! I have a fear of first responders because of a history of involuntary ER visits and holds.
Yesterday my Friday social group went to tour a firehouse and see all the living quarters and trucks and equipment.
I was really nervous, especially about seeing any paramedics, because they're the ones I have the worst history with.
Before we met up with the group, my individual staff and I went to Build a Bear, because I wanted to get a special fire bear to help me feel less nervous.
This is my new friend Captain Pansy. She's a fire chief and is in charge of her own firehouse. She's very brave, and isn't afraid of emergency situations at all. She came with me to the firehouse.
There was a paramedic there, but I still stayed and did the tour, and I even asked them two questions. They were patient waiting for my AAC, and I learned some new things.
At the end, they turned on the station siren so we could hear what it sounds like when an emergency comes in, but my staff and I left before they did it, because it would have been too loud for me.
It was scary, but I'm proud of myself for going!
