What are recruitment procedures for the izzet? Any advice to anyone wanting to join?

There are four primary ways to join Izzet League:

Fill in application form at League’s Recruitment Office and start off almost immediately as one of League’s valiant Attendants. My best advice for those pursuing this path is former motto of Izzet Observation Corps: Die Trying!

Be spotted by one of our Guild Trade and Patent Integrity Monitors. Officially and legally they are there to detect and sue anyone who infringes on one of My Guild’s countless patents. But unofficially it’s not infringement if you are one of us, so they double as recruitment agents. My best advice for those pursuing this path: May Audacity be Your Guide!

Anyone who can solve the unsolvable riddles concealed in the Cluestones of My Guild are automatically sent an invitational letter to my Guild. If that’s your bet my advice to you is: Common Sense Is Nothing But Bias.

Be invited by any of the members of Izmagnus Council, the best of the best. They generally only take notice in most exceptional minds and talents, so my best advice to you is same as to everyone: Impress Me.

May I ask what the most spectacularly failed experiment has been so far this year?

Vedalken Blastseeker Yakow Eteroglan the Luminous, proposed that condensed and purified aether could be used as viable alternative fuel source to elemental-, spirit-, and muscle-powered solutions. His distillery imploded last Seleni, earning him highest body count in past 3 years, several fortunes worth of equipment and infrastructure damage, as well as several posthumous charges by other Guilds. 

Shame really, I thought he might’ve been onto something. Maybe in a different universe…

Dear “Lasav,” unlike you I have a (mostly) positive public image, and you may or may not know this, but public images take lot of hard work and effort to upkeep and maintain. If I would attack Sunhome I would be written down into channels of history as bigger warmonger than that pompous ginger! And if I arranged an “accident,” I would be known as more incompetent than, well… Your Predecessor.

…Besides all that, the Living Guildpact specifically forbid me from declaring wars or performing “impromptu urban renovations” without consulting him first.

Wouldn’t recommend betting on it. Our Statistics and Divinations Department have declared that by all plausible probability models it’s a miracle that Nivix hasn’t spontaneously ceased to exist yet. “Too many explosive substances and temperaments per square meter,” they say.

Were you planning on becoming the guildpact? Is that why you were pushing for the implicit maze thing? Also! Waddya think of jace?

By me, no, other Guildmaster who’ve never trusted me, and neither would have I ever trusted anyone who’d want to become the new Guildpact. I planned to have perfectly designed and seemingly unbiased elemental artificial intelligence run the Transguild interaction, slowly easing the other Guilds into dropping their guards down and then letting Izzet League operate on more lax regulations.It was perfect! They would have never seen it coming!

But enough of that failed gambit. Jace Beleren is an adequate Living Guildpact, though his repeated abscesses and rampant procrastination halts most of Transguild activity to gridlock, which is marginally better than war.

Why didn't you keep the guildpact going?

I am afraid it wasn’t matter of what I didn’t do but what I could have done at that point. I learned about Azorius Senate’s decision to overrule original Guildpact only when I arrived to my safe house location after tactical retreat from a fight with Nephilim (during the whole incident that spawned Rubbenbelt). Several months later Karlov heiress tried to establish non-magical peace treaty which lasted exactly as long as such venture could have last. (That is as soon as it became more beneficial to stop pretending to be on board with this faux-Guildpact.)

Could I have tried to use blackmail and threats to get six other Guildmaster’s play nice for several years longer?Not without making my presence in the background known and leaving myself vulnerable for such pleasantries in return.
