FireStar Clan Lore P1
(Roughly Summed Up)
Steadfast Keep
Relatively young by Guardian standards, lived with his momma in her cave like a bum as if waiting for his charge to come to him rather than the other way around, only emerging at night to observe the skies.
His charge did come to him. A meteor fell from the sky and into the sea below the floating islands, and Steadfast leaped off of one, dived into the water, and swam down just to retrieve it.
This item he named the Starhusk- he felt it had some sort of potential for great or terrible power, and felt a need to guard it, study it, and keep it safe from the wrong talons.
Left his mother's lair and set out to carve a home for himself in the Crystal Spires, intending to live a life of complete noble solitude, studying and guarding his charge.
One day a random Tundra showed up while he was digging out his lair, was just sniffing around, apparently admiring his work. He saw her presence as harmless, as only one tiny dragon, and assumed she would eventually leave; he was wrong.
He grew to enjoy her company, even though Permafrost chattered a lot for a Tundra.
She fell for him first; he fell later, and only realized when she went away to the market for a few days to sell her yarn. He felt loneliness for the first time, and realized he loved her; then he realized why she had been giving him pink flowers (pretty pink mums); needless to say, when Permafrost returned, she found a mound of pink mums and a very sweet, heartfelt confession waiting for her at the front entrance of the lair.
Single-handedly off an entire pack of Seeker Gaolers that came after his StarHusk since it was a "shade-touched" object. He won. They then saw his intentions with it were good, and that he could be entrusted with keeping it safe.
Seems concerned with the length of his beard. Lets Permafrost nibble on it, though.
Has a familiar: an isopuppy he named Scraps. He loves it to death.
Fights in the Coliseum to get stronger so he can more effectively guard his charge (and now his clan).
It didn’t hit him that he became a clan founder, even after Permafrost and Coruscant kept teasingly referring to him as that, or after he had eggs, or even when more dragons started joining; it only really hit him when the clan numbers hit 30, and everyone was turning to him for help and advice and leadership.
As Clan Leader/Founder, he adjudicates, officiates, hunts, fishes, and fights in the coliseum; he is also the protector and head researcher of the StarHusk. He's well loved and respected by his clan.
Permafrost Cozee
Pretty forgetful, even by Tundra standards, due to trauma.
She originally lived with a nomadic clan of tundra researchers that often traveled between the Ice and Arcanist territories, trying both for diplomatic and scientific reasons (desiring to utilize magic and knowledge to help preserve and grow the ice fields and their delicate ecosystems); but a blizzard came in, and Permafrost became separated from her family.
She searched for months, and slowly forgot them. She has severe separation anxiety as a result.
Met Steadfast because she was trying to go to the Arcanist himself to find a spell to help her remember and locate her family; was distracted by Steadfast and his in-progress lair and forgot why she came; only has vague, hazy sparks of memories, when she really tries to recall.
She obsessively keeps a "smell book", a diary full of little odds and ends from her friends (ex: a clipping from their mane) to sniff so she never forgets them.
Female himbo. Always asks "dumb" questions (ex: "What kind of animal is a vigilant sparrow?") with absolute earnestness. Really, though, she just has a genuine curiosity about the world around her and everything in it, and a deep love for acquiring knowledge; strangely, she never seems to forget what little facts, skills, or trivia she learns.
Joined the FireStar coliseum team because she wanted to help Steadfast. She has very strong healing magic as a result, and is usually the first anyone goes to have wounds treated.
Has a familiar- a neko yarn collector named Stuffie.
Wanted lots of babies. She loves all of her children, and wept when some of them left to serve the Arcanist directly. She also cries when other members leave the clan.
Acts as co-leader, and is often the one who offers to let other dragons join the clan; she's also a craftsdragon, spinning her fur into yarn and crocheting all sorts of items to sell, or just as gifts.
Menagerie KeepCozee
Adopted daughter of Steadfast and Permafrost, found when Steadfast was fishing.
She refers to Coruscant as 'uncle Coru'. He gifted her the feathered jabot she wears.
She's into aquaculture; she runs a hatchery and aquatic plant farm for the clan's food supplies.
She's very interested in aquaculture, but she is constantly bouncing around between interests and ideas. Her cave is littered with half-finished projects, blueprints, and books annotated on several pages. Keeps lots of notebooks full of ideas.
However, she never abandons any project permanently; she just sticks them on the metaphorical backburner until the passion returns- even then, it's a miracle if she can finish anything.
Due to her knowledge on a wide expanse of topics, as an older adult she starts to mentor and teach some of the clan's hatchlings.
A little scatter-brained, but can focus when the situation calls for it. Usually though don't be surprised if she checks out of a conversation mid-sentence.
Permafrost and Steadfast are her real parents in her heart. She knows she was adopted, but it never mattered very much to her because they always made her feel loved.
Coruscant Zynith
Acts very egotistical, but in an extremely silly, exaggerated way so everyone knows he isn't; but he is a little vain and can be prone to dramatics if his attire gets ruined, or when his antlers fall off.
Himbo. He's not very bright.
Is probably one of the sweetest, most empathetic dragons in the clan, next to Permafrost and Aurora.
Was briefly raised somewhere in the Starwoods, where a monastery of sorts was; he had no parents, just two dragons that cared for him until the very minute he was able to fend for himself (when he could move and speak).
Wasn't even given a name. They dropped him off somewhere in the woods and left him to fend for himself.
Briefly joined by a group of Spirals that he grew overly attached to. He fell asleep with them around him, when he woke up they were gone.
Blamed himself for not being loveable enough. Has extreme separation anxiety and is terrified of being alone.
When he was a little older he found his way out of the StarWoods and into a library. He found a dictionary and read the entire thing- and in the process found the perfect name for himself: Coruscant Zynith.
Basically a walking thesaurus. He can find at least one synonym for any word you want (which makes him useful for Diapha when she writes), but terrible at spelling (hence his last name).
He loves numbers, surprisingly good at math.
Bad tooth sensitivity. Really needs a dentist, doesn't know he does.
He's very sweet to hatchlings. All of the hatchlings love him. He raised all of his kids with about as much attentive care as a skydancer.
He likes personal space- that is, he likes your personal space.
Goes out of his way to talk to dragons that seem to be by themselves and tries to include them in the group.
Is sort of a jack-of-all trades, making and selling apparel, serving as the clan's hatchling care-giver, barista, coliseum mage, etc; you want it he'll become it; but mainly he acts as clan treasurer and also a progenitor (due to the large number of hatchlings he sired).
Fell for Diapha because of her absolute, unwavering confidence in herself, and her complete (often brutal) honesty. He also likes her extra wings, because they remind him of stained glass.
Diapha Crystallis
Was raised deep in the Starwoods with her hive.
They were horrible. Extremely obsessed with beauty and themselves, ostracized Diapha as soon as she hatched, due to her coloring and especially her extra wings.
Kicked her out as soon as she was an adult- though she insists she left.
She became extremely grouchy, independent and non-conformist as a result, used to go out of her way to be mean to others- her reasoning was if she hurt them first, they couldn't hurt her.
Her looks are a very touchy subject. She will never accept someone calling her beautiful, because she can only see those compliments as "vapid lies".
She only intended to stop by the FireStar Clan's lair on her way to somewhere else- she chose it specifically because it only had four dragons (three adults and a hatchling- she hoped they would keep all of their attention on the hatchling and leave her be).
Enter Coruscant; to her point of view at the time, the most annoying, vain, silly, conceited, and idiotic dragon she had ever met.
As she got to know him, however, she saw the very sweet and well-meaning dragon underneath all of the ostentatious apparel and showy confidence and, to her alarm, started to fall for him.
She began to love the other dragons of the clan, too, because they weren't like any dragons she had known before (but to be fair, probably anyone would be better than her family were).
Acts as clan recordkeeper. She loves to write, and has a long memory.
Always writing something. She loves writing really gruesome horror novellas, tragedies loaded with heavy angst, borderline 'dead dove do not eat' type of things- and surprisingly, romantic comedies; they often serve as her means to vent out her feelings.
When she's angry her extra wings start buzzing, making a sound like an orchestra of cicadas- and she's angry often.
Always trying to get Coruscant to be mean; she thinks it would be good for him, occasionally.
She, as a veilspun, also has a powerful hypnotic ability, and may have other unnatural powers, as well; she only uses these when she really has to (or really wants to).
Startide Bluewave
A scientist and a high-class lady. A hint of nobility in her bloodline, but she doesn't associate with it; what good are titles, really?
Bit (or maybe a lot) nihilistic, sometimes has depressive episodes because of it.
She was a sort of theologian, but she started thinking about the gods and their motives and what they've done to dragonkind a little too hard.
She joined the clan because they were small and out of the way- she just needed a peaceful place to hopefully clear her mind.
Extreme existential dread. All of the time.
Having a unique knowledge of the Shade, she has helped Steadfast directly in his studies of his charge; she may secretly hope to find a way to utilize it to create a weapon against the gods- just a backup contingency plan in case they decide to wipe all of the world clean of dragonkind.
Also finds the Starhusk fascinating.
She and Steadfast became close friends over the course of their research.
The Arcanist is alright with her but he's on thin ice after causing two apocalypses and also sending the Aethers into space.
Also is interested in space, and space travel- again, in case they need to abandon Sornieth.
She's great with statistics and predictions. She's almost always right, and skeptical of oracles (like ShatteredSky).
You can imagine how she felt when one of her kids decided to be a very devout Arcanist worshipper. She's also not very fond of dragons in the clan choosing to serve the Arcanist directly.
Violets Enclover
The clan artist. Mostly specializes in painting.
One of her methods is dipping her pearl in paint and then rolling it across the canvas. Other Pearlcatchers would consider this sacrilege, but she would only claim that the purest art is a direct product of the soul.
Can be somewhat snooty, and vain. Didn't like Coruscant at first because he was an Imperial- however she recognized it wasn't right to judge him based on prejudices.
She makes a lot of money off of her paintings, knows how to market and get commissions from wealthy patrons. She helps Permafrost market her crochet products as well.
Came from a rich family. Doesn't talk to any of them anymore. They always discouraged her artistic pursuits and wanted her to have a 'real job'- aka take over the family business in trade and stocks and marry one of the rich suitors they picked out for her (mind you, her family wasn't awful, just insensitive and maybe a little backwards in their ideas, but wanted the best for her).
The only time she broke her silence against her family was to attend a ball they were throwing (they invited her)- and she brought Coruscant as her date. She wanted to use him to make her family flip their lids. Coruscant went along with it because he thought it was funny; plan failed successfully, but that's another story.
She joined the clan because they were small enough for her to feel she could contribute majorly; she may have some sort of complex around making herself 'useful' and proving that artistic pursuits can make her successful.
She actually hates taking commissions because they require her to paint things she doesn't have interest in painting (ex: portraits). However most of her money comes from commissions.
Gets burnt out very easily- sometimes has days she doesn't emerge from her cave, and everyone else checks in on her and brings her food.
Actively tries to be a 'starving artist' by turning in every single coin she makes into the clan's coffers. She wants to completely reject her roots out of guilt; however the rest of the clan actively takes care of her, so she doesn't quite fit the title.
Terra KeepCozee
Steadfast and Permafrost's first daughter
Heir to the clan, and takes it very very seriously.
Both of her parents are an equal mix of proud and concerned. Neither of them, despite being the clan founders, take their jobs half as seriously.
Permafrost wanted to name her dirt when she hatched- thankfully Steadfast stepped in and talked her out of it.
She's always eager to take on leadership roles, constantly starting "clan meetings" and always keeping tabs on administration of the clan- economic, political, etc.
She was extremely displeased when her brother Audax turned down his opportunity to be exalted in favor of starting a family- and in a courtship that hadn't the decency to be beneficial to the clan. She hasn't spoken to him since (save a few times during family dinners when their parents basically forced her to).
Sees her clan not for what it is, but what it can be, under her leadership.
Despite how overbearing she can be at times, she does genuinely love her clan and everyone in it, and does exhibit good leadership.
Her charge very well may be the clan itself.
Audax KeepCozee
Actually the oldest of the clutch, but turned down the position of heir because he knew his sister was better suited for it.
Sort of like his father before he found a charge; homebody, a little lazy and having no ambition.
He's still on his "Search", hasn't found anything to take on as a charge yet.
Was going to be exalted like their brother Saepio, but unexpectedly fell in love and started a family.
His mate is one of Coruscant's daughters, an imperial named StarShimmer.
Doesn't seem to mind that Terra doesn't talk to him; he actually sees it as a good thing, as he doesn't get nagged as often.
ShatteredSky (gifted to me by @nihoneshi !)
A wind Oracle that unexpectedly arrived to join the FireStar clan for some 'deeper purpose'.
She doesn't speak often, but when she does, it's usually somewhat cryptic- or just plain and bluntly straight-forward.
Also prone to unexpected fits of laughter, causes of which are only made clear after the thing she was laughing at happen.
She reads prophecies through wind-blown leaves and wind chimes, or even sometimes items of clothing that have been ruffled by the breeze.
She thinks Startide's skepticism towards her is hilarious, and loves watching her face when the exact thing she predicted actually happens before Startide finishes her calculations; she finds it funnier when Startide then tries to explain it away.
She had a lot of hatchlings with Coruscant. Has a good relationship with all of them, though Coruscant mostly cared for them- she was usually busy with reading auguries.
She gets a lot of coin as a fortune-teller. Her favorite fortunes revolve around love, and she's credited as quite the match-maker.
However, sometimes even her greatest predictions can go astray; the future can be changed by the slightest breeze, and she's very wary of it; hence why she gets so absorbed in her predictions, so she only emerges from her cave with the most likely outcomes.
Her final prophecy ran as follows: "Be wary, for the apex of the Zynith nears. He must come. He must be stopped; he must come, he must be guided. Be wary, he brings ruin; be joyful, he brings prosperity."
