quiet chatter carries throughout the small coffee shop, intertwining with the soft music playing overhead. jun’s gaze wanders over to a nearby table occupied by a couple in the midst of a whispered argument. a smile of amusement curves his lips as he directs his attention back to his steaming cup of coffee. humans never fail to provide him entertainment, no matter how miniscule. it certainly helps him pass the time while he waits for shinji to appear.
jun is somewhat understanding of shinji’s dedication to academics. his friend has responsibilities and expectations to live up to and a number of other things jun doesn’t want to bother recalling, but jun has never excelled in sharing others’ attention, much less the attention of those he wants. an unreasonable part of him is appalled by the lack of shinji’s presence despite having only recently sending out the invitation through a message minutes ago.
he pushes said part away and concentrates on taking a sip of his still scalding coffee. there’s no hint of the typical burning sensation, only the rich taste of caffeine. warmth settles in his stomach and he picks up his cellphone to help further pass the time. the couple behind him is no longer arguing, though there’s a tangible sour aura around them. he’s positive they’ll be back at each other’s throats in a minute or two.
tapping on his phone’s screen, he opens a message sent by his so-called boss earlier in the day. it’s a request to meet later that night and follow newly acquired leads. jun makes note of it and closes the message. his eyes rise away from his phone when the shop’s door opens. a small pleased sort of feeling unfurls in him at the sight of his friend. he’s been working nonstop the last two weeks, having free time is a welcome reprieve made better with the company of a friend.
❛ the man of the hour! ❜ jun smiles as shinji approaches, remnants of wicked and wrong lingering behind the gesture. ❛ how were your classes? are you finally ready to drop out? ❜ he tilts his head slightly to the side, his grin taking on a mischievous tone.

SELF INDULGENCE in it’s simplest form. ‘ man. fuck off. y’got yer kiss. christ. you smell like a god damn lynx store. where’d that other guy go? wait. w-… oh my god! Stubborn disinterest is traded out for (it’s uncomfortable, too uncomfortable) wide-eyed intrigue; he’d lived so long envying those better off than him, the promise of wealth is to him as the Forbidden Fruit must have been to Eve. ( 몽상 ) Accusations bounce between the two quickly and they resemble temperamental toddlers, the people that caught them seemingly confused by the situation. Her undivided attention is on him and the corner of her lip curls upward in a sneer. “Look at my arms dickhead, did you REALLY think I could carry that heavy shit by myself?” Her excuse is woven with lies; both of them she was fully capable of carrying the box without an issue— she was just lazy. “So what that I did drop it, you’re the one that wanted to do this in the first place so technically this,” she pauses to gesture to the people, the box and even goes so far as to jab her finger into his chest. “is your fault.”
