Part 1

I Want to Eat Your Pancreas

It's amazing how one person can change your life. I Want to Eat Your Pancreas, while having a weird title, focuses on a boy and the friendship he formed with a girl with pancreatic cancer. It’s basic of a plot, but it really knows how to make you emotional. Animation is wonderful, and the dub cast were great as their roles. I promise you: the title is more than you think 

Maquia: When The Promised Flower Bloom

Motherhood, medieval times, and Maquia experiencing it all. This movie was brilliant in animation and story. I wept as the cast was phenomenal and Maquia’s journey was one I was moved by. See the beauty of Maquia and the world she is surrounded by.

Fireworks

This movie was meh for me. Nothing great, but nothing was bad either. Just know Norimichi has the chance to fix time and rescue Nazuna. That’s pretty much it. I did love the animation for the fireworks.

Ninja Scroll

I recommend you being at 21 to watch this movie. Trust me, it's really adult. Seriously, so much goes down in Ninja Scroll. It was badass and good 90s animation. I’m a dub watcher, but this dub wasn’t so great. The lead ninja’s voice actor was pretty bland, yet everyone else was good in their roles. Still, Ninja Scroll was an experience.

Mary and the Witch's Flower

Studio Ponoc had a great start with this being their debut. Based on the book, Mary discovered the world of magic and witchcraft. Animation was colorful, cast was delightful, and story was wonderful. I hope to see more from Studio Ponoc in their upcoming projects.

Ghost in the Shell

This movie was so epic. I didn't pay much attention to the story because I was in love with the animation, character dynamics, and the world Ghost in the Shell has build. How the crew was allow to do excellent 2D animation and CGI work so well for 1995? I will never know.

Your Lie in April

I hate this anime, there I said it. If you want to see the full explaination, click here. While it had amazing animation, a dub cast with talented people, and classical music, the story was lackluster and poorly directed. So, when April comes again, I won’t be crying.

I LEGIT watched this right now lol. I knew absolutely nothing about the plot, and it made it much more interesting. So to give you the bare minimum, it’s about a girl who is about to move with her mother and soon-to-be stepfather, and her struggle with her physical and mental “freedom” (She isn’t abused or anything. I just think she wants to do more with her life and feels like she’s being held back?). Obviously there is more, like an unrealistic fantasy element and a guy since there is romance. But that’s all I'll say to not spoil it.

The art is pretty! I fell in love with the town it takes place in and want to live there myself lol. And the characters' expressions were created with such emotional depth! No words, but you can see it in their faces. Props to the artists. There is also some playing around with different art styles, which was a creative touch (The changing of art styles could have been done better to make it smoother though imo).

You feel for the characters. At first, I was like “hmm?” but wow, I really sympathized for the female lead. This movie definitely has a sentimental aspect too.

It has a (for a lack of better word) “trippy aspect”. *It’s a nice twist used often in film to make slower films a lot more fun/intriguing.* If you watched ‘Paprika’ (an older anime film), it has that kind of similar trippy/surreal aspect. But definitely not as “edgy” as ‘Paprika’ for sure, instead it’s much more fun-loving.

Negatives… aka why I think it’s a 5/10

First off, it is slow-paced. You have to “sit through it” at times. I think it’s mainly because there is some lengthy lingering on scenes. I’ll explain more in the next point ↓↓

Continuing on with “slow pace”, the general storyline/plot is short/small, if that makes sense. The movie could’ve been shorter but still delivered the message fine. If I had to guess, scenes were stretched time-wise to make it the average movie length of 1.5 hours.

Overall,

It was not bad at all. Very average film. Definitely for people who are already anime fans who can wait patiently for the punchline. It isn’t the best anime movie for an introduction and isn’t the biggest game changer, but I did not dislike it! I do think that it’s one of those movies you may get bored with after a couple watches though. Still, I encourage you to at least watch it once! Who doesn’t like how pretty fireworks are~ and a cute town too.
