OK Orion quickly point to the able-bodied heterosexual white men in the first class

Cyclops? that guy uses a an aid to see he is NOT ABLE-BODIED

Beast? the man cannot wear normal shoes and is clearly some form of neuro-divergent his ALSO DISABLED

Angel? pretty sure having to hide your wings and not being able to wear certain outfits counts as a disability too

Jean? NOT A MAN and faints when she over uses her powers so possibly also disabled

Bobby? Haha he's mixed and gay so not a heterosexual white man

Xavier? You're joking right? Xavier is the poster child of "quick think of wheelchair user in superhero media"

Where are the able-bodied men in X-men, Orion?

The Xavier istitute is a thinly veiled metaphor for a school for gifted disabled kids

they're all white/white-passing because it's a fancy prep school

Len Wein looked at that and decided to make the new team ethnically diverse and more power to him

Strange Aeons mentioned in her 'history of the bingus" that hairlessness is a natural cat mutation and hairless kittens are often born to fluffy parents and I had this dumb idea of Magneto adopting a hairless kitten that's the runt of the litter and was left behind

(he assumes it's because the kitten looked different but it's implied the mother simply lost her)

I imagine this the silver age era so he raises this little hairless cat to be a supervillain lap cat and pats it as he sits in a chair and monologues

I bet Erik names the cat something usual like Tzipporah (she even has a metal collar that says so) so when he's inevitably defeated and Jean takes the cat back with her, some of the x-kids can't even get Tzipporah's name right (Bobby insists on calling her zippo)

I know the timeline is wack but I'd like Tzipporah to live long enough to meet Dani Moonstar and have a "conversation" about how while she's glad to not be a supervillian lap cat anymore she kinda misses her first owner

Dani will reassure her that all children taken in by Magneto feel this ambivalence

The first class' idea of flight

Warren: wings (literally his mutation was made for this)

Jean: pushing herself off the ground with telekinesis (tiring but effective)

Bobby: launching himself upward with ice (limited in only a few feet at a time but effective)

Scott: launching himself upwards with eyebeams and destroying the ground below him (dangerous to civilians, draining and the Professor made Scott promise to never do that again)

Hank: building himself a jetpack from all the scrap metal that still litters the ground after Magneto attacked last Tuesday (risky to everyone involved but not draining at all)

tw Set in the 60’s so heteronormativity and American exceptionalism are sadly a thing.

I like the adaptations where Salem Center knows the first class X-men’s secret identities but treat them the way other cities treat non-mutant metahumans: with familiarity and respect

"Oh yeah that’s Slim ‘eyebeams’ Summers and his telekinetic Marvel of a girlfriend Jean Grey. Lovebirds, aren’t they?"

"Jean helped us move in, just stopped and offered help unloading van and stuff. She's great. "

"Yeah that’s Warren Worthington flying overhead. Quite majestic ain’t he? They call him Angel for a reason."

"Oh Bobby’s such a sweetheart he let the kids skate on the lake…in summer. Wonder why he doesn’t have a girlfriend yet, he’s a catch."

"We’re not sure what Hank has, maybe he’s just a genius. It is a school for the gifted after all. We don’t know what he’s saying half the time but he built an entire plane by himself last year for his Engineering class."

Except of course Professor X who no one knows is Charles Xavier until his evil twin sister (It was Grant Morrison's run, ok?) out hims as a Mutant.

*Charles is indeed a Korean war vet and I bet you he lets humans assume that’s the reason he uses a wheelchair and not that he was cursed by an interdimensional alien named Lucifer (It was Stan Lee’s run, Ok?). I actually don't know if that's still canon anymore.
