Erik is a city boy who is orphaned at a young age and had his formative years in a ghetto. This boy knows many skills no 16 year old should but swimming may not be one of them.

Being Erik he would likely attempt to teach himself some time after his escape.

I imagine a heavily pregnant Magda is just sitting on the bank of a river or even a creek and shouting encouragement at her husband as he’s literally threading water and nearly drowning. He’ll figure it out eventually of course

Years later people will remark on his unique swimming style and he’ll admit he invented it himself.

Saying "Magneto was right" but shaking my head the whole time so people know I don't mean that he was right about mutants being a separate species when they don't satisfy any of the criteria for speciation.

A concerning number of people out there are more comfortable referring to Magneto as "European" than they are referring to him as "Jewish".

Anyway. If Magneto was born on January 30th, 1926 (his birthdate isn't very concrete, it could be later than 1926, and could be a different date, but this is one possible date), then:

-He would have been born on Shabbat

-He would have been born on the 15th of Shvat, AKA Tu B'Shvat

-His Bar Mitzvah parsha would be Parshat BeShalach (when the Israelites leave Egypt, cross the Red Sea, have the bitter waters cured, and are attacked by and defeat Amalek), and he would have been born on Shabbat Shira (when we read Shirat HaYam (the Song of the Sea))

And I think that's sooooo character appropriate, both his birthday being Tu B'Shvat *and* his Bar Mitzvah Parsha being BeShalach.
