In my quest to collect as many hobbies as I possibly can, I decided to try my hand at doll customizing. Since I'm trying to share my art more, I figured I'd show it here on Tumblr.
I started by making a plan to make a doll of my D&D character, Neia. Sketched out her face and outfit, so I knew exactly what I was trying to do and what I’d need. The plan itself looked really good
I already had a ton of stuff in my house that would work for her outfit thanks to my costume commission business, so it was just a matter of getting all the actual face-up and rerooting supplies.
The whole process took about a month. I worked slowly, usually working on her during the weekends so I could focus on work during the week. Little by little she started to come together.
Gotta tell you, the hardest part had to be styling her hair. After a few tries, I finally got her hair the way I wanted it. Sewing her clothes took no time at all.
Finally, she was done! Here she is!
Altogether, I'm really happy with how she turned out! She looks exactly how I pictured her. This was one of my favorite characters to play, and to immortalize her as a doll just fills me with joy. The campaign may be over, but Neia's adventures are not!
Thanks for letting me share this with you. I am definitely going to be continuing this hobby and I've already got a few ideas for the next few I can do. I can't wait to start on the next one and I hope I can share that with you too!
I can finally share my first OOAK doll as we celebrated my siblings birthday early and they have now received it!
Long post under the cut!
Im so proud of how she turned out and my sibling loved her! I even made her a custom box and some mummy dust bills to go in the box and a rose to hold! She turned out better than I expected and was well loved when opened!
Base was originally a blue Tomy Zoids Command Wolf. Primed first using slate gray (aerosol), and everything else is hand painted minus the custom red canopy which was commissioned by the lovely AllieCatzCreations on Etsy!
All that’s left is the two thin white line bands across the shoulder armor and then add RZ-009 decal stickers along with two thinner white line bands on the neck armor. I’ll probably lightly spray a matte finish to keep the paint job in tact before and after, and maybe add any details that I had forgotten.
Almost there! :D
Here’s the original concept (under cut) for those wondering <3
I may or may not add the red circles...don’t have quite a thin brush to do that. I’ll try out an acrylic wash beforehand, but if it doesn’t work I’m fine leaving it be.
And she's as done as she's going to get! Yay for more insomnia projects, since this little lady kept me up all night. So yeah, part two! She was dramatically enhanced by paints I think, though I do think I should have maybe added her lashes with paint instead of watercolor pencils...I also should have glued the rhinestones down AFTER I put her back on her body, but alas. Hindsight is 20/20 and all that... Anyway, let me know what you think! Critiques, tips, and advice are always cherished!
baby’s first custom! I’ve decided to name her Oona. as you can see, I painted her face and fins/tentacles, made a simple no-sew dress out of fabric, and gave her some hair out of 80% acrylic yarn. she currently has no shoes, but my cousin and I are going to a doll shop tomorrow so I can probably snag some there. anyways, I’m very proud of how she turned out, considering I’m not an artist.
