And this year's summer doll is… Ely!

It's been a while since I used one of my OCs for my dolls (I may have too much OCs…)

I really love her, I had such a hard time making her hair and painting her face, but it was worth it! I really wanted to make a doll with box braids, I also got my hands on some cool iridescent fabric to make her clothes and accessories.

Also also, since she's a summer doll, she get a swimming outfit!

(shoutout to that unknow person who gave away that mini inflatable flamingo ring at my local secondhand shop, I love it so much)

Details below:

So the doll is a Barbie Dream Bestie, they're really cute dolls, save for the fact that their feets do not fit any barbie shoes (??). This is why I had to get her Rainbow High doll shoes, good thing they look really good on her!

Btw, I had to DRILL to get the braids inside her head!

Here's a closeup of the bag, I made it in the shape of a floppy disk (old guy voice remember floppy disks, kids?), as I was trying to go for a vaporwave vibe for her.

Finally, her earrings and bracelets for the swimming outfit are actually phosphorescent beads (? idk how to call them), they look like little neons, so they were perfect for her!

All clothes were handmade.

How’d did you switch the lower legs of the monster dolls for Pomni?

I’ve heard mixed things if it was even possible

I actually found it shockingly easy, but that could be dumb luck. Idk what everyone else has been doing, but here's my method. (Please excuse the quality, I'm packing for a trip rn and having to make do. Also I spilled nail glue on my sheets.)

Step 1: Have a G3 doll you'd like to swap lower legs on. Or two of them ig.

I'm using the Lagoona I already swapped for this demonstration if you're wondering why her leg seams are already popped open.

Step 2: Remove her legs.

I find the easiest way to do this is to swivel them up, then move them outwards til they pop.

If you find them a struggle to remove, you can heat the leg joint up, but I find them pretty easy to pop off. Easier than Barbie anyway.

Step 3: Rip those suckers open.

I find jewelry pliers work the best, but any needle nose pliers will do. Mostly you just want to be able to stick them in the hard plastic part of the socket without catching the inner vinyl socket piece (that white bit in the photo, though it might be a diff color on other dolls).

Brace the leg on a cushion, and with both hands, you want to pry the pliers open until the seam on the thigh piece comes apart.

You might get a few stress marks where the metal was touching the plastic, but I've done this a few times now, and haven't had any other damage issues.

Step 4: The lower leg should now come out easily. This is what it looks like opened up:

Try not to lose the vinyl socket piece, or the leg will not go back on.

Stupid nail glue that's never washing out.

Do the same thing to your other doll, and now you can swap in the new leg.

Step 5: New leg tine baby.

Just reassemble the leg, glue it back together, and pop it back on.

And now I have a Lagoona with Frankie legs I guess.
