K-Sounds - Chrono Trigger - First Festival of Stars Piano by Ray Mak
I bought the ticket because I recognized Kendrick Lamar’s name on the poster. I didn’t realize it wasn’t in Manhattan until the day before. Where the hell is Poo-kipsy? This was my first time in New York let alone upstate. I joked to my coworkers to come looking if I wasn’t in the office on Monday.
Once in Poughkeepsie (it’s 2h north), I waited at the designated location where buses were supposed to take us from the train station to the festival grounds. There was no signage. Nobody was around. I called a number on the website and the lady said she had no idea where the bus driver was. 45 minutes? An hour later? I met three people who looked equally confused. “Are you trying to go to Hudson Fest too?” We agreed to share a cab if there was no bus for another x minutes.
At some point, a small party bus arrived. Leather seats, a tv and no one else. Turns out this is like an EDM thing. Fuck I know less about EDM than I do Hip-Hop. I was totally unaware. And wtf was Kendrick doing performing at an EMD festival?
I ended up spending the whole day with this nice boy who’s name I can’t remember. The girls split up because they had VIP tickets in celebration of one of them getting married. I watched them pop some pills and stuff drugs in body places to sneak onto the grounds.
Fuck man, I remember he bought me food, shared his water which came from a tube in his backpack (which I learned is common, and smart), carried all my shit, took me to the good music tents, smoked up... I had a hell of a time.
We made our way to Kendrick’s stage while the preceding act was still on. It started pouring rain. Everybody danced harder. The security guards kindly stored my camera in their tent so it wouldn’t get wet. When the set was over, everybody cleared out. The rain stopped, I got my camera back and walked up to the very front of the stage. Kendrick came on and I couldn’t believe my luck as I watched him from 5 feet away. I probably knew like 3 songs but I didn’t give a fuck. The energy in his performance was everything.
After I was supposed to take the festival bus then train back to the city, but a greyhound driver found me and said, "Hop on." He dropped everyone off at Penn station and I took a cab the rest of the way home. Happy. Very, very happy.

Teyana Taylor, Vic Mensa, Pusha T & More To Perform At Chicago’s Red Bull Music Festival
Chicago’s first Red Bull Music Festival will take place in November. Just because the summer months are coming to an end it doesn’t mean music festivals have to also. Red Bull Music has announced that Chicago will now be yet another city to welcome the Red Bull Music Festivals, that has previously happened in cities such as New York and Los Angeles.
