Mass Effect Andromeda - Day 1; first hours critic
***May contain spoilers**** (I tried avoid them, but... Just in case) Read at your own risk!! ****************** ****************** ****************** ****************** First of all, I'll admit this. I didn't enjoy the first hour I played. The CC made me swear. My custom twins gave me a totally not related father physically... So I had to start the game again. Also, I was playing in low spec and... My eyes hurt. Badly. It showed Andromeda is made for top of the line consoles and PCs. After an hour of play, I was like: fuck. I need a new graphic card and to upgrade my computer ASAP. ... But, I reasoned with myself and decided to start again, but this time as Scott Ryder, the default MRyder, which was my first idea for my first playthrough, even before the game release. I also changed my specs to medium. And it's SO MUCH BETTER. I just hope my graphic card survives the trip... The game started again and... ... The magic operated on me. I love it. I. Love. It. I can't wait to play more and discover everything, know everything, talk to everyone. I just got into the Tempest with Scott and... Wow. Chills. The adventure is really starting. So. After 3-4 hours of play (I think, lost count), here are my pros and cons so far: Cons: -Really disappointed with the CC. It shows it wasn't Bioware and EA's first concern; -Playing in low specs is painful, looks blurry and pixelated - - play at least at medium specs; -The feeling that the game was made for top of the line gear - - so if you don't have some, you feel you are missing a little something. Pros: -The jetpack. O.M.G. Shepard would kill for one. It's amazing; -Sounds, voices, soundtrack: ON POINT. Exactly like I wanted it and expected it. And it's a super important point for me. Thanks guys, for making my ears happy! People actually have a muffled voice when talking through helmets and SAM hasn't a perfect clear voice either when talking to the Pathfinder. Like it. A lot. -Animation IS NOT BAD. Maybe not perfect, but which game is, anyway?? I feel like I'm in the same universe, with the same movements and pace as the other games. Suits me quite fine. -The attention to details. The scenery, the sweat in the helmets (wow), the change of angle when the Pathfinder talks to people and it's not a cinematic... All the little things making it even more "real" -The references to the first trilogy are there. Perfectly placed. With surprises. Could not have asked for more -The aliens, even if they look generally the same (for the "old" species we are accustomed to from the ME Universe), are redesigned enough so they actually look even more alien, less human-ish. I really like that! Voilà for my first amateur critique of Mass Effect Andromeda. Keeping you posted along the way! Xo
