These are the words of my 12 year old daughter on her first day of school. Our schools will not open this fall for in person education due to covid19. My heart ❤ cringed. I felt so helpless. I feel her. I see her. I know these same words have come to minds of many kids on this day weather spoken or unspoken. May we all go back to school feeling safe in the beginning of 2021. Day 151: yesterday 😊was the first day of year 5. We are all in high spirits 🙌 Me for dropping Dhriti to her school 🏫 and Dhriti for her new class, new teacher, new friends 👫 and new pencil case. There were few hickups: Dhriti’s skirt was tight, we went early, but the school store had no stock. Dhriti lost her pen license, and was so concerned about it, that she didn’t sleep 💤. Hmm I was thinking where was this all going. And at the end of the day, all of the concerns were behind us. The first day was simply beautiful. WELCOME BACK TO SCHOOL 2019!‼️ Wonderful morning with some of my @canndunc neighborhood council board members and many other awesome non profit partners and school site leaders. We spent this morning showing love to our kids and welcoming them back in style. Shout out to Councilman @currenprice , @bhcrusade , and Eric Aguiar who is with the City of L.A. now; good long time friend. Exciting to run into my Primo Leo and younger cousin Chriss. As a proud product of LAUSD K-12, it was heart warming seeing my own family members in our schools and felt privileged to roll out the red carpet for them and all our kids for such an important day of their lives, especially the incoming 6th grade class. Freshman year has begun. These high school years go by in a literal blink. I know that in four years, she will graduate with a lifetime memories. She will learn to pick herself up from momentary disappointments. She will find truly good friends, who will get her through these years with support and lots of shared memes. 😂 - 📘.
