Getting Away
Rolling over in bed, your eyelids flutter as you reach for consciousness. You and Henry didn't reach camp until very late - early morning, to be exact - and the both of you managed to kick off your shoes and some clothing before crawling into the bed of your rented cabin before passing out.
This was a vacation to get away - to unplug from technology and just exist in each other's company. With you being in court and dealing with clients and Henry being away on location, it had been months since you had any real time together.
You didn't know what time it was, only that the sunlight was shining through the thin curtains of the bedroom and since it was late August, there was a chill in the air that promised the return of autumn. You inhale, breathing in deep and then, laying on your back, stretch luxuriously under the blankets, feeling the tiny pops along your spine.
"Good morning."
Henry's low voice, still fuzzy with sleep, causes you to smile and you roll towards him.
"Mmm...morning," you say, and you hum gently as he pulls you in, his eyes still closed even though he's waking up. "Sleep well?" you ask.
"Like the dead." Henry opens his eyes and smiles at you, before cracking a large yawn. "You?"
"Hmmm...I can't even remember my head hitting the pillow. I was so tired," you admit.
"What time is it?"
You snuggle in, twining your legs with his as his arm rests around your waist, and you're facing each other.
"Dunno," you say. "It's full morning though. Looks like it's going to be a beautiful day outside," you murmur. You close your eyes when Henry leans in and presses a kiss to your forehead, and you can smell the ghost of his cologne from the day before.
"I suppose we should get up then," he suggests, and you sigh in agreement. But the two of you don't bother to move, and instead continue to cuddle in bed - enjoying the peace and serenity of the morning. You didn't mean to, but being in his arms and the coolness in the air and finally being able to just relax causes you to drift back to sleep - feeling safe, and content.
