Anti-intellectualism was rampant through the 80s. Barbara Christian even talks about the devaluation of Black women’s literature in “the race for theory” When I found the Black lesbian newsletter and Aché I knew immediately their work was deeper than asserting the hypnotism that comes with the rainbow. 2015-2017 fond memories and experiences tracing and being faculty advisor. Life as an adjunct/part time professor 👨‍🏫 there is not stability and guarantee employment, you are at will, but met some wonderful colleagues and students there and they have gone on to graduate 🎓 not just the community college, but some graduated from csu and UC schools. #flashbackfriday⠀ ⠀ This was taken in 2017 the first week I moved in my college dorm for my junior year. I was working, helping freshman move in and so excited to start the new school year. Little did I know was that year was going to be the hardest. I wasn’t happy but I felt good because I thought I was doing everything I was SUPPOSED to do. I never once thought “Maybe I need a break” or “Am I doing okay?” I just thought let’s get this degree then worry about my health after when I have time. ⠀ ⠀ I was wrong. I don’t regret going to college but I do regret not listening to myself, to my body. I am grateful for everyone in my social circle in college, you all mean so much to me! I miss college and I miss my roommates and some staff. I sometimes wish I can go back in time and do everything all over but maybe I would have never learned anything about myself if I didn’t go down the path I did. ⠀ ⠀ Being a First Gen Student is tough but not impossible. Getting your degree is not a timed test.
