ran my first rapid response last night.
monitor tech tells my preceptor (who hangs out at the nurses station because she doesn't do a damn thing) that my pt is SVT in the 170's. I run into the room, and my pt is blue and unresponsive. Her lips and fingers are blue, no lie. She's dusky and cold. I try to wake her up, shake her, nothing. Eyes rolled back. Called the rapid response. Sternal rub for a solid min, kind of got a response. (Thank God)
So many people showed up. I haven't had ACLS training, so I knew what to do, but didn't. Bagged her, luckily no tube. It was terrifying. She was transferred to the ICU stable, talking, and breathing on her own, but I just couldn't get her face out of my head. 23 y/o who drew up her fentanyl from her patch into an empty saline syringe, and put it into her central line. I just can't...
