Hi! I googled this once but didn't really get a satisfying answer.

Why is Black Canary one of the greatest fighters in dc and how do u feel ab that title for her? I haven't read much about her but her origin seems pretty normal? Like I know she was trained by catman and she's really cool but it just doesn't feel right that she would be able to go toe to toe w/ lady shiva, Diana, batman, Cass???

Can u help me understand her😭? maybe even some recs? I've read exactly half of Green arrow/black Canary and a few issues of chuck Dixon's Birds of prey.

according to lady shiva herself, dinah has a lot of potential, and pursued training dinah personally.

as for why, honestly? why not? batman's just a regular guy with training, too. a lot of the same training, actually, since they're both students of wildcat, who was the world champion boxer. where bruce studied detective work and gadgetry, dinah dialed in specifically on martial arts. dinah's been at it for a long time, and she's more ruthless than bruce or cass. she does the fighter thing full time. she was chairwoman of the JLA. plus, dinah's mother was also black canary, so its something she's been around all her life.

"best fighter in the world" is mostly just a comicbookism, and who beats who is largely just story-driven, so i don't know that its too meaningful to definitively rank them all, but i do think dinah has earned her place amongst the top
