AppLift, a leading mobile advertising technology company, in partnership with conference organization specialists Online Marketing Rockstars (OMR), will be hosting FirstScreen, the first conference entirely dedicated to mobile performance advertising and advertising technology.
As mobile becomes the primary screen for consumers, smartphone users in Asia prove much more addictive and open to advertising.
AH! I know it's been awhile since my last post but unfortunately school trumps all else at Newhouse.
I found this article on ad age yesterday that reported our mobile phone is the New First Screen! This means consumers are on their mobile phone more than T.V., more than a tablet, and more than a computer. The data shows that consumers a typically multi-tasking more (meaning they're are watching T.V. and on their phone at the same time) which has lead to the increase use of the phone.
So what does this mean for advertisers? In my opinion, advertisers NEED to put a lot more focus into advertising in mobile media. I don't think advertisers are being as creative or innovative as they could be and should be.
These ads also need to be more personalized to work. As we all know consumers love something specifically aimed at them and mobile advertising is no different. The digital realm has this amazing gift of individualized messages compared to traditional that is missing this unique benefit.
If mobile advertising wants to succeed it needs to be creative, innovative, and personal.
Morrowind, first screen, by ocarina-rag.
My first drawing for Mapstalgia was the ever-so-easy Skyrim title screen, so I did something a little more interesting for my second. This is my memory of the first screen from Morrowind, when that dark elf wakes you up. My friends loved this game so much and raved about it in high school, and it took years for me to finally try it... being used to the likes of Skyrim and Oblivion, the combat system and all sorts of incredible gameplay flaws make the game awkward to play, but I became engrossed with the story...and the title screen music makes everything better.
Skyrim, first screen, by ocarina-rag.
Maybe this one is a little too fresh on my mind, since I've probably logged over 200 hours in the game...and counting... ha. It seemed like an easy enough "First Screen" for my first submission.
Vanilla Skyrim is amazing, and modded Skyrim is even more amazing. Can't wait for some official DLC.
[Josh says: I poured a lot of hours into Skyrim in the weeks after it came out, to the point of burning out and putting it down for a while. But at this point I'm starting to look forward to the DLC as well. And, mounted combat? Heck yeah!]
The Legend of Zelda: A Link to the Past, first screen, by Will.
First Screen of Zelda 3. I had played this game maybe three times all the way through before I realized the lantern was RIGHT THERE. (If you miss it, it replaces five rupees in a later chest)
[Josh says: I never properly played through this one, even though I'd spent far too much time with Zelda and Zelda 2, because while we had a NES we didn't get an SNES. My best friend down the block did have the newer console but he was less into RPG/adventure stuff and more into fighting games, so I played a whole hell of a lot of Street Fighter II during the years where I'd have otherwise been crawling around inside this.
My wife had an SNES as a kid, though, and we've still got that in a closet along with a passel of games. The question of whether to haul that out and try and find a TV we can even hook it up to anymore vs. just playing stuff on Virtual Console or emulators is sort of a tricky one, because nothing really beats the actual oldschool console for a visceral bit of nostalgia but what a pain.]
Sonic Heroes, first screen (stage selection), by jvvi.
This was always one of my favorite games (originally on PS2, but I eventually got it for GameCube when I lost my first copy).
I can't draw characters. But Big was a ton of fun to play as.
I gave up on Charmy the Bee, because, really, who gives a damn about Charmy the Bee?
[Josh says: I'm going to admit that I have always had kind of a shitty attitude about Sonic. Not as a franchise -- the original games were pretty great as a twist on early platformers -- but as a product of the hated Sega (I was a NES kid through-and-through in playground arguments) but more so just for the character design. Sonic always looked like he deserved a punch in the face. I don't know. Emotional baggage. I should maybe talk to a therapist about this.]
Age of Empires 2, first screen, by puck.
I just remembered about the Map Editor, and there might other buttons somewhere. I still play it now and then, with the Conquerors expansion (but I can't draw snow!).
