I lost my Opal a few months ago but couldn't bring myself to post about it on here when it happened.

He was quite possibly my favourite ever fish. Opal travelled through multiple house moves with me, was the only fish I had for nearly a year and kept me company even on the darkest of days. I've got a lot to thank for his wiggles and he was the reason I got up out of bed numerous days.

I know people say "It's just a fish" but he really was more than that. I made this little sculpture to have near my bed so I can think of him. Good night my boy. Thank you for giving me. 2 1/2 years of the best wiggles. SIP

I have come to realize that Andy's slow change in behaviour and appearance is likely do to his age and that I probably won't have much time left with him. I think he is only around 2 years old; I had always hoped he would be one of those betta that live to be 5 or 6...

But I am trying not to be sad about it and be happy that he lived long enough for me to move him into a 10G!

RIP Gemma 💜

Gemma unfortunately died a few days ago. I wasn't sure what killed her until I felt her body and found a massive internal tumor. It was pressing against her organs and is undoubtedly what killed her. I will miss you sweet girl, even if I didn't have you for that long 💜

Unfortunately both Dusty and Luci have external tumors as well. Luci's tumor keeps getting infected and I intend to euthanize him soon. Dusty is fine now but I wouldn't be surprised if his tumor starts impeding his movement soon.

Unfortunately bad breeding has caused tumors to form in many of my recent bettas and kill them. For this reason I have decided that I no longer want to keep bettas. While I will always love bettas, I can't handle the heartbreak of losing fish after fish.

I have decided to tear down all of my 2.5 gallons and store them. I will be moving the plants and substrate that are in my 7.5 gallon to a 10 gallon that I have stored, and I will be getting some other species of fish. I am thinking a single dwarf gourami if I can find healthy stock (my LFS usually had healthy ones), or possibly some species of dwarf cichlid. Or maybe even some chili rasboras. I'm not sure yet. All I know is that I am done with bettas for now.

I've noticed lots of people have been losing fish recently, so Froggo and I want to send everyone a big hug! It may be tough right now, but you'll get through it. Stay strong everyone ❤️

Fish Loss #3 of summer 2k15

*yanks out clumps of hair* I'm not having a good day. Poe is going to have to be put down. Long story short, he's been having pretty bad buoyancy issues since the beginning of the summer and they've just gotten worse. I've tried fasting him, only feeding vegetable matter and other laxatives, and trying to increase water changes. It's not any bacterial infection, because I feel like he would have showed symptoms by now. He's struggling to eat now and it's not fair to him. This is the third fish I've lost this summer alone. Joe was euthanized due to a bad tumor, Sammy randomly passed due to a rapidly progressing fungal(?) infection/old age, and now Poe because of a bad swim bladder/genetics. I'm just bummed. I still have Edgar, my wonderful little ryukin, but now he's gonna be alone. I love my fish so much, maybe sometimes a bit too much.

Put down my goldfish.

Well, my little goldfish hasn't been doing well for some time now. He wasn't the best swimmer and one of the other fish in the tank nipped his fins badly. His swim bladder infection has been steadily getting worse so I moved him out of the 55 gal goldfish tank he was in into the calmer planted 20 high gallon in my room. He needed a quieter tank to heal.

I woke up one morning to find one of my little molly's in that tank pecking at him and there was an open wound on his belly. I took the molly out and put him in the barb tank..if he's gonna be a jerk he's going to live with jerks. Anyway a fungal infection on the sore made me setup a 5 gal medication tank where I was treating him. Sadly this morning as I went to do a water change and redose the tank, I saw that his scales were puffed out..kidney infection? From the reading that I've done, I decided that I was putting this poor goldfish through too much with all the medications on top of not being able to swim propperly (the nipped fins making it harder as well) and I just put him down.

I've felt pretty numb the past few months, not a bad numb just a 'nothings really caused me to feel sad so I'm always content' kind of feeling. Putting my goldfish down though has reduced me into a complete sobbing mess. This is the second time this summer I've had to put down a goldfish and it was just as hard with Big Boy as it was with this little guy. I've come to realize that as a pet owner, my fish mean just as much to me as my sugar gliders and dogs. My poor Dad has seen me cry over many different animals, but this is his first time praying with me over my lost fish. :(

Bad fishy dreams.

Well I had a bad dream last night that I lost 2 of my fish.. Well I woke up and turned on the light and it didn't appeared that I lost any. But after a head count I was missing 2. They weren't the two in my dream, but it still happened. I had been sick recently. And all I really did was turn on the light and feed then. Which is bad, because if I would have paid more attention I would have noticed that the heater died, so now my tank that should be upper 70s to about 80 is barley 70... I'm glad I have heaters that work in storage because if not we'd be s.o.l. Since we just got snowed in again... I guess all I can do is out in the new heaters and hope a little larger tank clean will keep the others that currently look healthy actually healthy.
