Sad fish stuff ahead >
I splurged on a bunch of plants at the LFS for the 20-long. They also had some rummynose tetras there, and the tank is done cycling already, so I got a school of 8 of them to start the tank out. They looked a bit stressed in the store but I would expect that. I acclimated them for about a half hour, and later that day I added Prazipro as a parasite preventative because there's a lot of fish in the LFS system, including wild caught.
they were scared in their new home but they grouped together, and even ate a tiny bit of frozen brine shrimp I added to see how they felt. But still, 4 of them died overnight. The 4 survivors looked better though- still a little pale, but exploring more. I took my water to the LFS to test in case my test kit is old, but it was perfect. No ammonia, no nitrite, low nitrate. They gave me store credit and gave me the 1 rummy that was left in the store (not a good sign either cuz when I bought them the day before, there was 3 or 4 left, but hey he was all alone). I acclimated him as slowly and gently as I could. Then I left for most of the day, and came back and it looks like 2 more are dead/dying. :(
The LFS had said that since my water is good, it's possible that they had gotten a bad batch of rummies from their wholesaler. I've heard of such a thing, but this has all made me super disheartened about my first try at a community tank in years. I'm trying so hard to do it right but I feel so defeated. Would they be alive if I'd acclimated them longer? Do I need to make a drip acclimation contraption? Am I stupid???
Idk whether I believe my LFS that the wholesaler gave them sick fish, but I've lost some trust in them anyway. Like I might as well try my luck at buying sick fish from a chain pet store if the LFS is gonna sell me sick fish for double the price. Not sure where to go from here. /_\
Hate to make this post, but Beauregard has died. Found him right before going to work yesterday.
I had him for almost exactly 2 years and 8 months, I'm sad to think that if he hadn't gotten the growths/tumors he might've made it a little longer.
S.I.P. buddy. I'm gonna miss your dances and your cute face and your zoomies.

It is very unfortunate but tonight my last honey gourami died :( I feel bad I didn't get her more friends sooner because I feel like being the only honey left in the tank was too hard on her. Everyone else in the tank is doing well but I tested the water anyway just to make sure and it was fine. It's sad to see her go :(
ok heres the funny gif i made youve been warned
