THE BIG ONE
Came across this gem while watching episode 51 of jrwi riptide.
Guys I miss riptide npcs. I really miss them. They are suffering through the undersea arc and they are doing it together but also so alone. There was the whole thing about it being all four of them as a group who were destined, and that it’s not one person’s burden to bear, and then it is just them alone struggling. I really really want them to call someone. I need to hear Queen or Caspian’s voice desperately. I want to get a vague clue about whether or not Ollie snuck onto the boat. I love them having time to bond and do character development, but I need more hijinks. I need shenanigans. Why is my comfort podcast making me sad man.
Condi characters getting emotional is my favorite man. Those my babies but they need to cry and crash out and feel guilt. Love me a choked up speech from our boy Condifiction.
During the short time ive been listening to just roll with it riptide (currently listening to #43, city of steam) i have noticed that Charlie/Gillian will say the most random things during tense or chaotic moments, so i have decided to start a collection.
i’m not gonna organize these at all but i’m just gonna post quotes i enjoyed as i listen to the show for the first time.
“In death there is life
In chaos there is order
In malice there is justice”
-Gillian Tidestrider
“Blood is thicker than water but juice is thicker that blood”
-Gillian Tidestrider
“Are you scared? Are you going to piss your pants? If you do i’ll freeze it.”
-Gillian Tidestrider
“Be still my sweet saltwater babe, my spiraling serpentine son.”
-Gillian Tidestrider
GUYS THE ORIGINS OF JORT STORM

CHARLIE FREAKING SLIMECICLE YOU BEAUTIFUL BEAUTIFUL MAN
AND JEAN APPLE-BOTTOM
Riptide spoilers, specifically for episode 114, still not ferin well, but also kinda vaguely for the campaign as a whole. Long jrwi appreciation rant.
Fucking doppelgillian.
In my experience playing dnd, there has definitely been a few times where a character will get mind controlled and has to fight the party. Sometimes the dm just takes the character sheet and has complete control, and sometimes the actual player has to make the decisions. Usually the controlled character will absolutely go all out and use everything, do as much damage as possible, act really mean and evil, or the character will go soft on the party, try to find loopholes, not really play the character as a character, you understand.
The jrwi crew, when brainwashed or turned against the party, act so, so in character. They commit to it. When Chip was brainwashed by Grimm, he fully committed to the fatherhood bit, he acted with that motivation in mind and used it to portray the fact he was charmed or whatever. This also applies to any freaking hallucinations or nightmares, they immediately adapt to what their character would do and the immense skill and how in tune they are with their character is amazing. And yet while they play their characters like this, they’re all still so freaking supportive and nice to each other as players.
Doppelgänger Gillian takes it to a whole new level. I have admired Charlie’s ability to improvise since I started absorbing his content in middle school. He makes up complex characters and witty one liners and absolute bangers of songs on the fly, and his acting abilities are perfect. I went back and rewatched Gillian’s first solo part of episode 114 because I wanted to find when the switch was made, because I genuinely believed it was Gillian. The thing with lay on hands was a little suspicious, but I just thought he leveled up enough to do that. It was so convincing how he was able to play Gillian with the Gillian traits and gimmicks, and yet set out the hints and little details that made Gillian not Gillian. And the twist. My jaw freaking dropped. I also had to get out of my chair and take my headphones off and scream like Bizly did. The amount of talent oozing out of Charlie’s pores, out of every single crack and crevice and orifice.
They all are so talented, and I adore them so so much. The way I think and most likely the way I play dnd is forever changed. I could go on and on about the emotional aspects of jrwi but this post is long enough.
