I got an electronic line counter to measure my casting distance in practice. Then I decided to supplement that with a manual line counter. I did this to ensure accuracy. You know what? At 150m they’re virtually giving the same measurements! Now I use one in my Fishing Line Spooler by Sportsman Innovation called The Fishon Spooler. This is my line spooler by Sportsman Innovations. Largest sized for spinners. Handled my Makaira and Coronado, my 2 largest with ease. Can also strip line off spinners and conventionals. For conventionals I use it as a line tensioner. I attached a portable $15 line counter on it. Way cheaper than the $300 starting prices. I used to pay $500 from a tackle shop for braid. Always had to pull +20yd off because they fill it to the lip’s edge. Now I get bulk spools. So for my previous $500 bill for getting 9 spinners filled it’s now roughly under $200. And I have the satisfaction of doing it myself. This unit can do Ultra Lights from 500 size as well. For those that use the Alberto Knot, if you like it np. I had a tackle shop on Oahu put on my braid backing to a mono top shot. On my first cast my rig went sayonara. Unbelievable! So I casted my second rig that they also done & charged me for. Guess what? Double sayonara! Fricken unbelievable using only a light 3oz! That’s when I decided frick having others spooling my reels to securing my lines. I found out the guy that tied my line on used this knot as my regular wasn’t there, and it wasn’t the knot I requested. No refund or credit and no replaced lead, swivel or hooks even though I had both casts on video. That’s when I realized there’s only 1 person who I can trust tying and spooling my rigs. Since then I never went back. Brandon Rodgers of Sportsman Innovations set me up with their newest line spooler the Fishon Spooler in their largest size with all accessories. I now spool all my own reels and tie my own knots. Never had a failure since. Learn to tie your own knots. It’s rewarding. Even my friend in Maui at GJS Fishing Tackle Glen got what I have to service his customers. This is a good spooler. Easy to operate. I also now use Soft Steel line. Today I finally perfected my Modified Arbor Knot. The line broke before the know during testing. Did 2dz reels yesterday and another dz today. Stripped off a fortune in Jerry Brown braid and replaced all with Soft Steel Eminent Braid. Working on removing spooled Jerry Brown Braid off my reels and replacing all w/Soft Steel Braid. Not hard work, just time consuming as I’m using empty used ribbon spools to save the newest spooled lines. $1,000’s in JB being stripped & replaced. Worked all day yesterday just to do a dozen spools. Had 2 buddies come by yesterday and they were happy that I not only gave them the line but they went back home to bring their reels & I stripped their old line off to put on the newer JB braid. 6 spools were over 300yd that costed me $47 to get done. Can’t let this go to waste. Some were never used. To any serious angler out there, getting your own spooler is really important. Trust me. I’m using the Big Water Fishon Spooler. I’m doing 14K spinners (can handle bigger) by Sportsman Innovations. Even Glen at GJS Fishing Tackle on Maui uses the same unit.
