Tracking finally updated for the first time in two weeks for the stainless steel lily pipes I ordered for this guy. They’re in jersey with the middleman rn, so hopefully I’ll have them by the end of the week.

Dosed 2ml of flourish today in addition to having placed root tabs in the sand because I’ve read that the cabomba can take fertilizer from the water column. I’ve also read it’s slow growing but needs high light, so I reeeeeeally hope this doesn’t turn into an algae thing.

Gf and I have an empty cabinet in the kitchen a once the fridge that we didn’t need for kitchen things, so just haven’t gotten around to deep cleaning and sealing and painting (we inherited a cockroach problem when we moved in that we have all but completely conquered). But now that her exams are over, she’s finishing it up and it’s going to be my fish cabinet. This means I’ll actually be able to move the heater as filter under the stand!

anybody know what it’s like to have like, perfectly inked linework done for an illustration and then be completely unable to color it, because if you do well it’ll be way better but if you fuck up you’re ruining something that was already awesome? That’s how I feel about planting the 30g. But the cabomba aquatica I ordered for it gets here tomorrow, so c’est la vie!

I’m adding another tank for the new rescue crayfish to the four I already have in my apartment, so I deep cleaned the ones I have to prove to no one in particular that I’m responsible enough for a fifth. Everything is GLOWING. I’m so glad I have fish.

I snagged the 11 gallon Aqueon rimless (same tank as my 30gal but smaller) for TWENTY FIVE DOLLARS on sale. The clarity on these tanks is not bomb but given that I’m insisting on only rimless tanks and am on a budget cause no one anticipated me rescuing a crayfish, for $25 it will definitely do. Gonna fill that halfway with water and try to scape it only with locally found shit, 1. Cause it’s cool and 2. Cause I am fresh the fuck out of money now that I’ve bought all the hardware for my new 6 gallon high tech planted. I’m thinking like a lot of emerging rock with terrestrial moss, and birch leaves on sand substrate.

I’ve gotten really sick of the visible crud buildup in the 30 gal’s inflow, it’s just not doing it for me anymore, and I never did buy a glass outflow (still using the stock sunsun spraybar) so i plan to get the stainless steel inflow and outflow set from jardli when I finish throwing money at the 6gal.

I lost two of my five corydoras paleatus in the 30g recently, which makes sense I suppose because they’re nearly 5 years old. Still a bummer. I’ve been holding off on fully stocking this tank for such a long time for so many reasons. Primarily I’m afraid to take the plunge with some Bolivian rams, and I can’t settle on regionally accurate plants that I like. But I’m just gonna do it. I need to stop being so precious about it. Now that i only have the three corydoras though, I’m wondering if I should try a different type.

Hilariously, the incredibly low tech shrimp bucket looks 🔥 right now.

My two tanks at my parents house in RI are being well cared for in my absence. Rasboras and bettas are all happy.

I was an impatient monster and added three ember tetras to the 30g last night without quarantining them. Now I have 12!

cleaning all of the NY tanks today. And! They’re all currently inhabited too! The dormant fluval chi is holding five embers so I can keep an eye on them until I drop them in the big tank. That’ll (if all goes well) bring the school to 13. really looking forward to seeing them all together. Petco also had a nerite snail someone had given up so I got him for free. He’ll live in the chi for good.

My female zebra danio in the 30 gallon has looked terribly egg bound and lopsided for weeks. There hasnt been much I could do about it, and now her side has finally split and developed an ulcer. Sadly, she’s still swimming around and behaving normally, but I’m going to euthanize her today. Better for her, and for her tank mates. The two remaining boys will get put to pasture in the 20 long I have in RI when I’m there next.

Obvioisly I’ll be taking photos once everything’s been cleaned.

Was away for a week. Came home, and the surface skimmer on my 30gal had sucked air into the canister filter and stopped it from working. Water was cloudy and one Cory has a red mark on its side, but otherwise no worse for the wear. And I think I fixed the problem.

got sick of waiting for my intake to travel back and forth across the world before it gets to me so i went to Lowe’s and put together most of the parts for a diy in-line heater. Need to figure out which uniseal is the right size, order it, and get a hole saw bit that fits and it’ll be ready to install!
