Help me fishblr. How do y’all do rainwater collection setups? Since I moved to my new town I’ve been problems. pH out the tap is 8, when my whole fishkeeping life I’ve been learning to make things thrive at low pH, 6.5-6.8ish.
I think I need to try rainwater. Do you collect from your gutters? Just leave a container out? Do you treat that water? What’s the deal.

being a god is so hard like I fully understand why they've all abandoned us. yesterday i changed the water in my nano tank and the weather there is pretty much always 80°F and sunny but the replacement water was cool and it had been a couple weeks so it replicated a rainfall after a drought and so then my little civilization of ember tetras all thought it was Time To Fuck but my stocking somehow skews aggressively male so this morning I turned on the sun to see they all had raggedy little tails after beating the shit out of each other over the One Woman on Earth.
MY BETTA IS HERE! got him safe in his tank yesterday. Sorry for the lack of audio, the son I used is apparently for IG only.
My wild type Thai betta died a few months ago and I’ve been without a betta since. And I’ve been without a heartbreaker marbled plakat for a really long time now.
But not much longer! This guy comes from Thailand at the end of the month.

Hey fishblr. I’ve been slow releasing updates on this tank as poorly received reels on IG, but as my first fish community you deserve the first look at the new shrimp tank with plants.
It’s a far cry from the low tech shrimp bucket!
I have a lot of “spare” setups. So I gave away the shrimp hex tank to a friend who wants to raise a baby betta. For a tank I spent $4 on and a $5 filter and a free light, the setup served me really well. Even though I talked mad shit about how much I hate hex tanks for the whole five years I had it, it’s kinda bittersweet to see it go!
Then I went into my parents’ basement and sorted the gear I brought home from my late friend Quan’s aquariums. I put together two ten gallon setups for two other friends who want to try keeping bettas. I’m glad the stuff will go to good use, and I hope it brings them some of the joy it brought him. I’m excited to share and maybe someone else will catch the bug like he did.
My old mignon filter is really noisy because a pice of the impeller is missing so I bought a new filter for my betta tank. I bought the same one for the 3gallon shrimp tank I’m building and it’s great. It’s called the DaToo XP-03B and as far as I can tell it is EXACTLY the Dymax Slim Flo except it has a white lid not black and is $9.99 instead of $18.99.
Also I found a “used” aka returned hydor 25watt adjustable heater on Amazon for $10 so the all new gear for this tank is coming out to $20. Thank god because the fish + shipping was sixty bucks.
I am back on my BULLSHIT
I want more flow than this but less flow than the powerhead I had in here. The minnows are so fun to watch swimming in the current.

sculpey is safe for aquariums? Do you know if any paints are/any further info on that? are there paints that are aquarium safe? Just curious because i sculpt and sell sculpey miniatures :^) be nice to have a new market lol

I’m sure there are aquarium safe paints, as there’s a lot of high quality resin(?) aquarium decor out there that’s been airbrushed. Buuut I don’t have personal experience with painting anything for my tanks so I’m not sure what paints are good to use.
I've done a little research and from what few sources I've found, it seems to be okay as long as it's unpainted and unglazed. I was wonderin

Forgot to take a pic until after I took out a massive handful of algae. The shrimp bucket is dead. Too far gone to be worth rescue.
But I still have a few shrimp. And they need a home 😉
Didn’t I say the shrimp need a new home? Trying to get my stupid flat nano to turn on and we’ll be in business.
Do we think it’s sacrilege to use aqueon substrate with ADA additives?
This is the 30 gallon rn. I absolutely gave up on Amazonian plants but I’m moving the oto and the wcmm soon and will deff be focusing on exclusively South American livestock. I just didn’t have the energy to get it all to be a perfect biotope, and that was making me sad. So I just got a bunch of random plants and started filling it out.
It’s started looking good again! And now I’m happy and it’s making me invest more time in my other tanks again too.
