Yeah, Xever got that all too well. He had very much been the same as Jason was when he was a kid. Though, to be fair Xever had been much younger back then. And the person he attached himself to ended up not being the best in the end. That person had left Xever alone whenever he felt the need to but always came back.

Xever wanted to remain with Jason so he wouldn't be left alone. Cause the kid clearly needed someone to lean on right now. And with how low rung he was with the Foot right now he could maybe get away with not being around for a little longer. So long as kept giving updates all while pretending to gain more ground and money for them. It was the best way to ensure he had something to offer.

"I made a promise didn't I? I wasn't going to leave you. You're...important...to me so I'll take care of you..."

Xever found it hard to be too comforting, he was trying though. Likely trying to say the things he wished others said to him. He almost shuddered somewhat since he was bringing up his own sadness. He reached up a hand to Jason and stroked the boy's scales.

"Um...no? Pretty sure I had venom in that. And you bit me first! I told you not to bite me so hard. Don't pretend you haven't!"

Raz had gotten into the habit of biting Xever more lately in their little fights. Xever was a bit sick of that if he was honest so he thought why not give the dog a taste of his own medicine? And so this happened!

Well partly, Xever hadn't intended to put venom into it. But, that seemed to have happened on its own. Xever quickly went to go get some bandages for the arm since like blood was bad and stuff.

"It's ok, I mean you're you right? I've seen you get better from being crushed all the time this'll be nothing right?"

"So uhm.“

Could the gecko have used the door? Sure, but Mondo decided to climb up from the window and hang from the ceiling instead as he made his way into Xever‘s room.

"How are ya?“

Ever since the encounter with the Mafia along with the recovery. Xever had remained a mess he would toss and turn in his sleep. Screaming out words that often had the name Rajan repeated. Mondo likely knew that name now, it was something Xever hadn't ever mentioned in all their time together. Because how could he?

"Not good...but...I'm happier now you're here."

Xever had to keep telling himself that what happened meant something. Because he was able to protect Mondo. He was able to ensure that the kid wasn't hurt. Yet, he wasn't stupid this event had likely still harmed Mondo in some aspect since he got to witness someone almost be electrocuted to death then nearly crushed.

Yeah, Xever had leaned into Mondo as a source of comfort. And Mondo was likely doing the same. It was what they had always done when they were feeling down. They had leaned on one another. They had been close...they had...been a family...and Xever just...

A tear or two fell but the fish didn't bring it up at the present time. This wasn't like the past where Xever put on this mask of strength. No it was almost like a reversal like he was acting like Mondo once did when they first met. Xever was meek, was unsure, was sad.

"You're ok right? I mean, you didn't have to come but I'm glad you did. Wanna play some games? I don't mind doing anything you want."

Yeah, Xever had simply become a playmate for Mondo. Just smiling nodding and just offering comfort and time. Always deep down scared of the moment Mondo might decide enough was enough and throw him away. Xever couldn't bare that, not when he was like this.

"I only started getting the merch and watching to show recently. Wasn't sure what awoo meant but I'd howl with him if need to but its his thing so...also don't like coffee and I prefer to call him Raz. Also not high society...obviously..."

With so many stars Xever felt himself smirk.

"Obviously with so many stars I'm clearly Raz's best friend."

Another day another theft was boring but least Xever was free. No longer was he tied down by anyone or anything. Bradford was gone, along with the Shredder. Xever was sure the others survived but the fishman hadn't exactly been friends with any of them. Sure, he had done those Mister X events to allow the mutants a place to relax and enjoy death races. Because who doesn't love death races? No one!

Which made it more awkward when Xever's former "friends" were now trying to do good and ended up running into Xever. He was stealing some money from a store. Thankfully no one was around, Xever tended to be one who struck when no one was around. That took way more skill and was full of pressure. Yet, now as the fishman was leaving he saw the other two mutants blocking his way out.

"Woah, is that...Bebop and Rocksteady? What are you two doing here? I was here first you know? But, might share if you want it..."

"You know I can't do that Red. This has been a long time coming. I won't anyone get in the way this time. Our battle must be ours alone because that's what I want to happen. A fight between us and only us, no brothers, no girlfriends, just us and no one else."

A mechanical clamping then activates upon the plunger keeping it in place while Xever slowly starts walking away with his prize. The string was also made of a strange nylon like material that wasn't easy to cut. Xever now had Raph exactly where he wanted him.

"We're going to my own persona arena where we can fight one on one. I made this plan ages in advance and you have an event to keep!"

Xever laughed to himself enjoying this moment for all it was worth. He knew deep down though Raz could easily break out if he wanted to. The gap of strength was clear between them still this wasn't something to waste. He had to enjoy what fun he could get.

"Hey Raz! Do you want me to let the dog out?"

Xever burst out laughing again, ok laughing at his own jokes sounded lame. But, Xever was used to this. He spent most of his life alone.

"Why do dogs run in circles? Because it’s hard to run in squares What’s a dog’s favorite kind of pizza? Pupperoni pizza!"

Xever started sounding off as many dog jokes as he could remember. Just being the same annoying nuisance he always was.

Great, this is perfect why did this have to happen to him? Sure, he might have been trying to steal a sick ride from the junkyard. But, it was junk! No one was supposed to care about it! The indignity of it all to get caught by some nobody working a night shift. Was this how the great Xever met his end? At the hands of a junk worker?!

Or to be more precise it was better to say the mutant fishman made a blunder by accidently walking under a faulty crane magnet. No one was at the junkyard, no one at all. There was no secret master plan, no hero trying to save the day. Nope! Xever just made a dumb mistake, thankfully he was alone so no one would know about this. Yet, how was he going to get out? Most of his weapons were blades and if he detached his metal legs he would be forced to crawl his way back to his safehouse. He wasn't doing that!

"So what do I do then?! Grrrrrrr! I'll kill the junkyard owner for this! Or make it so he never works peacefully ever again!"

The fish tried to looked around for where the crane controls were or perhaps the powersource. Sadly from where he was he couldn't see it. Damn it! This was so stupid! Why had he become a joke?! Xever was a name that used to be feared! But, no now he's Fishface! What kind of stupid name is that anyway?! No way was he ever accepting that! His name is and always would be Xever!

As the fish fumed to himself while hanging upside down he didn't notice the sounds of someone else around. He was too angry.
