Through the endless days and nights she could not help but wrap herself in sorrow - I couldn’t believe that Mike didn’t write this song. That line sounds so much like him, and I thought the song fit for him and Phyllis during their back and forth time after his affair. Still one of my favorites, even though he didn’t write it.

This was the first “grown up” sounding song I liked as a kid. I thought it was so dark and ominous.
I agree that I was kind of surprised myself that Nez didn’t write this one. One thing I always enjoyed about Nez’s songs is that he didn’t always dwell on the more stereotypical aspects of love that were usually the focus of love songs. Instead, he goes into the light, dark, up, down and sideways path that love can take.
Still, it’s not surprising that Nez really wanted to do this one. It is a more “grown up” song that is lovely, but also more somber. A great fit really for the Pieces album as a whole.
