Idle Hands (1999) Often forgotten classic. Apparently way before Jessica Alba was worth mentioning on the cover... or the back... Who the fuck is Jessica Alba? And don’t get me startet on the German title (”Idle Hands... what’s it about?” “A hand that kills.” “Better make sure everyone knows that beforehand. ...See what I did there?”). I am eternally bitter about German titles for things.

Dogma (1999) Making a comedy about religion... takes a Kevin Smith to do that I guess. So much truth and still so fucking funny. And Alan Rickman being 1000% done with everything and everyone is my favourite Alan Rickman.

Fanboys (2008) The force is certainly with this one... also William Shatner. But mostly the force.

Lesbian Vampire Killers (2009) To quote myself: “Hilariously inappropriate and inappropriately hilarious”. Amazon never forgave me for buying this though. (btw, while googling it for the release date I found out it’s known as “Vampire Killers” in the US... One can practically smell the fear of the L-word)

Tucker & Dale vs Evil (2010) Probably one the funniest movies I ever watched. Almost fell off the couch watching this. It’s also really cute... and of course appropriately gory. <3

Favourite 5 movies with strong female leads

Alien (1979) No-brainer. Sigourney Weaver as Ellen Ripley is THE ultimate strong female lead.

Silence of the Lambs (1991) Jodie Foster as Clarice Starling faces down not only a serial killer but fights for her rightful place in a male dominated field of employment. And she’s hella rad.

Ginger Snaps (2000) Emily Perkins and Katherine Isabelle as weird sisters are what really makes this movie feel as haunting and uncomfortably real as it does.

Once were Warriors (1994) Rena Owens’ portayal of an abused wife fighting against both her violent husband and social isolation is incredibly powerful.

American Mary (2012) Katherine Isabel again, clearly this round’s winner. Don’t make an enemy of someone who’s trained in using scalpels. Just don’t.

Since I’ve been visiting my family over the holidays and therefore far away from my movie collection and unable to do any challenges, I present to you instead 

Stuff my parents made me watch over the holidays:

Karl May’s Winnetou I-III (1963-65) I have no idea whether Karl May and his westerns are a thing outside of Germany. Around here both th books and the movies are pretty damn iconic. I grew up with them, my father grew up with them. I thought watching them approximately 3000 times as a kid might have been enough, but my parents were in a very nostalgic mood these holidays.

Paul Blart: Mall Cop (2009) Someone shoot me. 

Cargo (2009) This is actually one I made my parents watch, not the other way around. Lovely little space horror flick from Switzerland. How often does that happen? 

Jaws (1975) Always nice to rewatch classics in HD.

The Expendables (2010) In theory these movies kinda do appeal to me... All them old school action heroes teaming up. But the truth is, I really can’t deal with the wreck that is Silvester Stallone’s body. Also his spray-on beard. WTF.

Back to the Future (1965, 1989, 1990) Revisiting childhood memories. Where are my hoverboards???

Favourite 5 4 movies featuring dragons

Mulan (1998) One of my favourite Disney movies.

The Hobbit (2012) Only glimpses of Smaug in the first one but it's the only one I own. And that is one pretty dragon.

Justin and the Knights of Valour (2013) Cute, family-friendly entertainment. One of the characters is voiced by Charles Dance. (As if you didn't suspect something like that.)

The Witcher (2001) Don't look at the dragon. Don't. Look at Michał Żebrowski instead.
