I love being about a jack of all trades because it means that people can come to me for random shit, and I will be able to do it. Exhibit A- my friend‘s favorite jeans, they were devastated that they wore out in the thigh. The brand they got them from stoped making them (of course 🙄) so they came to me and it took a bit of struggle with my sewing machine to get the right angle, but I was able to patch and reinforce them all nice! I used slightly thicker denim for the patch bc it’s a high stress area. I tried to make it a bit more invisible than my mends usually are? I don’t know if I pulled that off, but they were very happy and these should hold up for a good long time!

I have 28 days before my surgery and I remember all the shit I never thought of last time, so I am busting butt to make sure I don't hit the bobbles this time. My biggest tip?

Get a one gallon jug and fill it with water. This is all you are going to be allowed to lift. Now go through the house and find everything heavier than that. No walking the dog - if your dog takes off, that's ten pounds going thataway and you'll blow your sutures. Trash? Cat litter boxes? Laundry? Groceries? If it weighs more than that jug, you figure out another way to do it or arrange help.

For some surgeries, you might not even be allowed to lift five pounds. Fill a half-gallon carton and walk around the house. Anything that weighs more than that is off limits.

and it’s here where you figure out how cultural perceptions of unhoused people and criminals and drug addicts come from.
