Fix You Up || itzallaboutfitz
In under ten minutes, Eli had rushed out the door of his apartment, seated himself in his car and started off towards the hospital. He knew he could have chosen to take his time, making Fitz wait a bit longer than truly necessary to be picked up. Perhaps after their last row, he even deserved to be treated in such a way. But it didn't come naturally to him. Never before had Fitz truly needed him- at least in a more pressing way than a nagging erection or a small favor outside of that. If anything, it was always Mark caring for Eli, protecting or tending to him for the two years they'd spent together. The dynamics were quickly switching, making Eli wonder if he even had it in him to handle Fitz. From the moment he'd heard that he was a bounty hunter, the career seemed to scream trouble. It was truly only a matter of time until the man accidentally screwed himself over and gained an injury from his work. What Eli hadn't expected was to be summoned by him because of it, asked to assist him in getting back to his hotel.
The balance of power seemed to be an ever-shifting thing between the two men, and more likely than not lately, it was tipping in Eli's favor. With a blatant disregard for New York State traffic laws and the current speed limit, Eli tapped his finger anxiously against the steering wheel as he drove. His current standing with Fitz was hard to discern. Every time they left one another, it was always a bigger blowout than the last had been. Whether or not he wanted to fully acknowledge it, Eli had to wonder if Mark would have bothered to get in touch with him, if not for the obvious necessity of the situation. All signs pointed to no but he couldn't dwell on that at the moment, for fear of letting his bitterness turn the car around and head home. Beneath the rejection, the uncertainty and all of the arguments he'd had with Fitz, one thing was definite. Eli cared- possibly more than he should have- but he cared.
It was all the more difficult to care for a man who seemed to feel invincible, as though nothing could knock him down. Eli hoped if nothing else, this incident would act as a cautionary tale for what could come, if he didn't work to become more attentive to his own well-being. Reaching the hospital, he parked and made haste to get inside, making his way to the front desk. Once the nurse directed him to Mark's room, he could feel a palpable relief hit him at the sight of the man, battered and uncomfortable but in one piece. "Well shit." he murmured, approaching him. "You don't look too swift." Eli was trying to downplay his own relief over his condition, somehow expecting gunshot wounds or something of the like instead. "Are you alright?" Pausing, he shook his head. "I know you're not alright but how are you feeling?" he asked, fighting with himself not to reach towards Fitz, refraining from acting on the concern he felt.
