Caleb was many things, but he had never claimed to be heartless. He wasn’t sure if his company would be acceptable, with how Mollymauk was doing his best to be by himself, but he was willing to try. Seeing Mollymauk look so miserable felt wrong, and Caleb wanted to try and fix it. Mollymauk was meant to be happy and full of life and glee. Not looking like he was dealt a cruel hand and had no other options but to accept it. That was Caleb’s role, not Mollymauk’s. Never Mollymauk’s.

For the fic title thing: A sky full of stars (is only half as good as you)

Caleb is a wizard beloved by his parents, Fjord is just a simple orphan trying to get by. The two boys grow up in the same neighborhood and have been friends for quite some time. When Caleb shows signs of magic Fjord is fascinated and wishes for nothing more than to learn magic himself.

But magic is not something you learn, it’s something you are born with. While Caleb grows more powerful with each day, Fjord has the feeling of losing his best friend. To impress Caleb and keep up with him, he strikes a deal with a demon: he will gift Fjord with magic but has to give the demon his soul once he dies.

Now Fjord has the abilities to keep pace with Caleb’s magic-adapt friends Astrid and Eodwulf, but the weight of his deal lies heavy on his mind. Under no circumstance can Caleb figure out how Fjord got his magic. The demon however doesn’t seem to care about Fjord’s intention of keeping his deal a secret. He seems adamant to observe Fjord’s soul and see how it grows. And this was never the way Fjord intended his life to go–caught between the unwanted advances of a purple demon with red eyes and the unfortunate crush on his very best and only friend, Fjord can’t do anything than to hold on for dear life.
