Widofjordwulf prompt: Caleb loves his fiancés. He does. Truely. But the two paladins arguing over which church to get married in. Raven Queen or Wild Mother. Fjord argues Caduceus could preform the wedding ceremony for them. Eadwulf argues that with two of them being from the empire it would be rather meaningful to them if they were wed under a legally recognized deity. Caleb's just glad Eadwulf was the one to veto Jester's suggestion of letting the Traveler do it.
There was only one way this could end. You all know it's true.
Enjoy!
"How long have they been at it this time?"
With a sigh, he looked up from the color swatches and drawings of formalwear that he'd been looking at for the better part of the morning to give Beau his full attention. "We made it through breakfast."
"After that?"
"Well, I brought all of this out for us to discuss. You can see how well that is going."
"Have they come up with any new arguments?"
"I wish." He spared a glance at the two across the table from them, then released another heavy sigh. "Caduceus could do the ceremony for us. The Blooming Grove would be a gorgeous venue. We're from the Empire. Melora isn't a legally recognized deity. Caduceus has ties to the Raven Queen as well. There wouldn't be any issues with our marriage being legally recognized in the Empire. I know people who could do it for us."
"Damn. Why don't you tell me how you really feel about it?"
"Beauregard, I have been listening to them argue about this for weeks. It is exhausting."
"Lucky you, I have some good news for you."
"You do?"
She held up a piece of paper with a smirk. "I talked to Dairon. They connected me with some people. It'll be legal in the Empire and the Menagerie Coast and I'm Fjord's first mate, so I could also do it at sea. You've got options. All under the name of Ioun, obviously."
"Have I ever told you that you're my favorite person in the entire world and every plane?"
"No, but feel free to tell me that as often as you'd like."
"I'll see if I can pencil it into my schedule between searching for venues and determining the guest list."
"At least, I gave you one thing to check off your to-do list, and maybe they'll be useful now. Of course, you'll have to break it to them first."
"Believe me, that will not be an issue." He turned to look at the two across the table, then loudly cleared his throat to get their attention. "If you're done ignoring me, I've handled who will be the officiant of the ceremony. There's no reason for that to take up more of your time than it already has."
The two shared a quick glance before Fjord spoke. "Who would that be?"
"Beauregard has taken the time out of her busy schedule to use her connections with the Cobalt Soul to allow her to legally wed us in the Empire or Menagerie Coast in the name of Ioun. Obviously, we can include your patrons in the ceremony, which means there's no longer a need to pick between the two. We could also be married at sea, but I would rather not run the risk of someone getting drunk and falling overboard. This means we can still have one of our good friends officiate as Fjord was suggesting and we'll be wed under a god recognized by the Empire like Wulf was suggesting."
"That sounds like a perfectly reasonable solution."
"Let's call it a compromise, like all good relationships have, and move on to actually planning the rest of our wedding as loving partners. Do you think we can do that?" When they both gave nods of agreement, he pushed the drawings and color swatches over to them. "Good. Look these over. Beauregard and I have some business that should only take a few hours. We'll discuss these when I get back. Don't have too much fun without me."
"We would never. We love you."
"I love you both. Even when you drive me up the wall."
