🥾- draw your OC’s boots. Not shoes - boots. In what circumstances do they wear them?

This is most easily done for The Scrimshander and Ruthie, who wear boots exclusively, and also most silly to see side by side.

The Scrimshander's boot is also its only shoe, singular, as it has only one foot and frankly hasn't seen a reason to seek out a second. Its a seal leather boot with an ivory heel, dowl lining dyed very nearly tyrian purple, coincidentally from a mollusk which was overtly abundant in its home archipelago. What would be a traditionally crafted boot — warm, insulated and sturdy, water resistant besides — has been enhanced with a steel toe, very obviously beat to fuck from 11,000 years of unfortunate circumstances, as well as brass buttons, as the original bone ones fell off long ago. The Scrimshander knows enough about stitching to keep the boot in good repair, (and its a good thing, too, getting it replaced would be a headache for a boot ao big) and it wears it basically anytime it intends to be walking.

By contrast, Ruthie's boot is impossibly delicate, crushed velvet dyed a soft coral pink with embroidered flowers, a two inch heel and, most crucially, rather stiff boning to keep her heels safe and study. Back when she could —and did, occasionally — stand up, such supports were crucial for her to maintain her balance alongside Rose, as her leg is two inches shorter than Rosie's and the two have hypermobile joints. Even an independant chair transfer all but required Ruth to be wearing her boot, so it is no wonder it is strictly to her tastes. She, too, has only one foot — and it was well documented (and commented on) that she and her sibling always wore mismatched shoes. This was, of course, largely put of necessity, being of different shoe sizes, but also a matter of personal expression, as they were also of different tastes.

Well, Ruthie is the Nemesis alt,

Unfortunately Rose fell prey to the plot. She's still conjoined to Ruth, but part of Ruth's journey through Nemesis will be having to, literally, drag her sister (possibly brother, actually, i made the character before i was aware the sibling option was gendered, but the idea that Rose was trans compells me) all the way through it. Sybil's presence is made all the more necessaty because Ruth is now all but paralyzed on the right side, because her sister isn't alive to move it. That motivator and reminder is Always right there. A physical weight that holds her down.
