The Offer of a Lifetime

It seemed to be yet another quiet and picturesque day in this nondescript American farm. The sun was shining, the grass was green, and a gentle breeze kept it from being too hot. Overall, it was a shame the golden flying saucer spoiled the effect somewhat.

It landed on the field with the grace and subtlety of a car alarm, and one could see multicolored lights being emitted from all directions if it wasn’t daytime. However, the time of day didn’t stop the thing from playing stock party music at full blast. Thankfully, both light and sound wound down as the saucer powered off.

Down came a tube, releasing far too much mist to be anything other than part of the tacky display. When that cleared, a small alien cat and two hulking robots could be seen by all. The small cat had a ratlike tail, a pinkish hue to his fur, and a pair of earmuffs. The two robots appeared to have disco balls for heads, and floated next to their leader with a slight swagger, as if they too would perform as they bashed your skull in.

The trio stepped out, in no rush to inspect the local livestock.

“Check for any sign,” said the cat. “Pupil dilation, bleeding ears, strange movement, anything!”

The robots nodded, and moved forward while their master hung back.
