Hopcurl (26) has had her kits! Greenrapid (64) is very insistent on being in the nursery and, afterwards, grooms Hopcurl’s pelt. It’s weird for the two cats to look at their five kits and think about the responsibilities they’ll have together. All five of the kits are water-blessed, with varying strengths. Minnowkit (0) is the weakest and she’s already insecure about it. Her brother, Flailkit (0), is the strongest of the five, and his water-blessing is almost as strong as Shinebreak’s was. Thankfully he’s sweet and is always trying to bolster Minnowkit’s confidence. His brother, Mistykit (0), has a pretty average power level and is much less interested in the going-ons of the world. He prefers the worlds he dreams up in his own head. The Clan seems to be generating a lot of troublesome cats, because Scorchkit (0) has already made a habit of drenching her siblings. She claims it’s an accident but. . .well, it’s always the cats who annoyed her who end up wet. And then there’s Chasmkit (0), who’s insecure despite his relatively powerful blessing. The main takeaway the Clan has from these five is that they were too comfortable in their nice, dry camp. Everything (and everyone) is wet. Sofanthiel (83) continues to prove that she is fierce and chases off a rogue, all on her own. However, that rogue may have had some friends. A couple of days later, a whole gang of rogues storms the camp. Hopcurl and Greenrapid do their best to defend their litter, but Hopcurl is weak from giving birth. Greenrapid manages to protect Minnowkit, Flailkit, Mistkit, and Scorchkit, but she and Chasmkit are killed. Echoarch (26) and Downgaze (89) fight side-by-side. The mother and son know each other’s battle moves and have rebuilt their relationship to be stronger than ever. But even that is not enough to defend them from the swarm of rogues that overtakes and kills both of them. Skymoon (20) is still adjusting to having weaker eyesight, and Lakepelt (116) doesn’t want her fighting. She insists on fighting, though, and Lakepelt follows her out into the battle. Both of them are killed before the rogues are driven from camp. It is not a very auspicious start to Dawnstar’s (92) reign. He sees that his Clan is. . .not happy to say the least, and does his best to lift them up with a rousing speech! Hopcurl doesn’t feel like it’s very effective, nor what she needed. She lost her brother, her mother, the cat she had hoped to raise her kits with, and one of said kits all in one day. When she sleeps, she is haunted by dreams of her lost loved ones. She yowls their names, her movements frantic as she refuses to accept their deaths. Her kits are confused and don’t understand what is happening to their mom. Bluestripe (83) does her best to comfort them, but she isn’t feeling great, either. Peatfeather (20) is shaken by the loss of another sibling and just. . .sits and stares at a camp wall. Skymoon always stood up for him and Petalfrost (20). Who will do that now? Even before the rogue attack, Hollowpaw (9) and Mitepaw (9) lost two of their three parents in two moons. That’s bound to impact them. Mitepaw is excited to fight and is jealous that Peatfeather got in a border skirmish with FurledClan. Hollowpaw is refusing to respect Burdockbeam (24) and talks back to her. None of the deaths impacted Dawnstar directly, so he’s doing alright. And continuing to crush on Bluestripe, his deputy. He can’t stop thinking about her. Longpelt (22) also can’t stop thinking about her, although not in a positive way. She thinks she’s annoying and steps on her foot without apologizing. With Bluestripe sick and Tanglechirp (55). . .absent, Aries (74) makes sure to spend some time with their kits. She spars with Dapplekit (5) and compliments the young cat on her fighting skills. Pebbletuft (41) is annoyed that, with Lakepelt’s death, Bumble (85) has taken over as the senior medicine cat. He hasn’t even been in the Clan that long! She feels like she should have more say over the cats she treats and only thinks that some cats deserve help.
