I'm re-binge-ing father brown and omg, there's something that makes me emotional about the shift from s1 where father brown plays chess alone, to s8 with him playing with Flambeu and they both look so pleased, like Flambeu even looks pleased when he loses. And sure, we've seen Father Brown play chess with people before, so maybe its the Flambrown fan in me, but these two old friends (because that's what they call eachother) playing chess is just so good.

A slow history of Father Brown and Flambeau from first meeting to future understanding. Over time Father Brown is a priest to a thief, a soldier to a spy and a man to a man.
My take on canon era Flambrown from S1 to S12. Heed the notes and the rating, this is a slightly different but still canon compliant take on Father Brown and fifties sexuality.
Thing a lot of Father Brown adaptations do wrong in terms of being an accurate adaptation is making Father Brown himself too nice, too social, too law abiding, and too normal. Never forget that book Father Brown straight up admits to only having one (1) friend in all the world, Flambeau, while Flambeau himself is the one who has lots and lots of friends and Father Brown is just his best friend. In every book story with Flambeau in it, Flambeau is the one who has to do all the socialising and normal human interaction and niceties because he's better at it. And that's really saying something considering there's multiple stories where Flambeau full-bodily throws someone down a flight of stairs just because he panicked and didn't know how else to stop them doing something.
In stories without Flambeau in, Father Brown will often just say things without any kind of filter and just cheerfully insults people to their face, or casually admits to thinking the murder victim kind of deserved it, or just says some truly odd things that make everyone confused and uncomfortable.
