Cannot go understated the amount of harm "pro-ship" communities pose to children online. NCCSA is a real and prevalent phenomenon. Just like "irl" CSA, it consists of adults who are in positions of power because of their age or other dynamics in-community abusing the trust their following allows them to their underage audience.
This is wrong because of the lasting trauma and effect on the child's mental, physical, and emotional well-being. If you were irrevocably changed due to coming across "pro-ship" content as a child, that is a lasting trauma and effect. Abuse becoming (further) normalized to you at a young age leads to approaching this very serious issue as a silly drama to be ignored and waved away.
It scared me, truly, to see this culture in action, fresh from incestual abuse, as a teen. It scares me now, witnessing the depth and scale of NCCSA on this platform and many other websites that refuse to do something in their moderation to prevent it.
It scares me, for every vulnerable and alone kid on the internet, that so many other adults refuse to disengage with children around kink or fetish content. That so many people see it as the responsibility of the parents, or the kids themselves, as they're simply too complacent in the normalized and systemic abuse of children to think they can take steps to end the cycle.
what is that "nccsa" term in that previous anon ask you got?
nccsa means non contact child sexual abuse. this is a very wide term that encompasses what we usually describe as online grooming (showing minors pornography, talking to them in a sexual manner, solicting nude photographs, asking them to contibute to the production of pornography via methods such as writing and drawing) but can also include acts such as taking nude photos of the victim, masturbating in front of them, talking about the victim in a sexual manner, etc. basically any form of sexual harassment or violence where the victim is not physically contacted is considered non contact child sexual abuse.
I think the online child safety act and all these new censorship laws are a load of crap and not about protecting kids (obviously), but this debate is really showing how some of yall actually feel about NCCSA survivors and quite frankly, it’s disgusting.
Some (keyword: SOME) of you guys are swinging in the opposite direction and acting like NSFW material is completely incapable of harming a child/being weaponised.
Does that mean nsfw content should be banned for everyone? Not at all! But I am BEGGING you guys to be more mindful about how you approach this subject. I’ve seen straight up VICTIM BLAMING and it needs to stop.
maybe some day you'll know
