Can't stop thinking about Athe Batfam having KHR flames and what it'd be like.

Bruce is NOT a Sky. Though he's charismatic and driven, it just doesn't...fit right. Instead, I think he'd be a Cloud. Aloof, but dedicated to his sense of Justice.

Dick IS a Sky, though Bruce is not his Guardian. Those positions go to the Titans.

Jason is a Storm. Maybe, idk it fits the best, especially after he comes back, though you could argue that the Lazarus pit infected him and warped his flame type.

Tim is either a Mist, or another Sky. Tim is far too good at lying for him to not be a Mist, but his similar charisma to Dick and Young Justice team could be evidence of another Sky.

Damian is either a Lightning, or another Cloud like his Father.

Cass is a Rain? She's incredibly soothing and perceptive.

Stephanie is another Storm

Duke is a Sun.

I do NOT know enough about the Batfam to be confident in my answers, but from what I know from canon and fanon, these seem accurate. Having Bruce and the others react to the KHR mafia would be pretty funny tho.

SO- I love the idea of a Flame Active DC verse, and the HORROR of imagining GOTHAM with Flames? That City would be CRAWLING with actives. The will to survive when you have nothing left but that will?? In GOTHAM??

Adding in the idea of Gotham Underworld with Flames and Flame Actives????? Whooooooooooooooo. Gotham would be a world in and of itself, other Flame actives don't come NEAR it. Gothamites Flames would be also weird what with the Curses and everything else. It's an interesting concept as a collective.

SO. Personal collective of Flames to Bats and Birds:

Bruce is 100% a Cloud- A Classic though a lot of people would call him Inverted with his personality. He's not he just TRAINED to control that temper, and his territory of choice would be Gotham, and eventually her vigilante collective. His Cloud nature reflects in enforcing his Rules and standards of how they are to operate and training his birds to survive it, but also his drive to bring the crime in Gotham to heel.

Ironically when I think of Dick, while I CAN argue for Sky, and it would be fitting, my brain actually assigns him to a Stormy Sun! Classic on both cases. All that rage and the way he locks in on his parents' murderer and jumps straight into plotting murder in vengeance. The single minded way he locks in- it talks to me of that obsessive natural of a classic storm. And that drive to burn his target down? Still storm. But at the same time- the classic energetic driven nature of a classic sun. The desire to nurture and take care of their people. To heal and fix the issues of their people.

Now JASON I actually picture as a Stormy Sky with just a HINT of Cloud. Classic across the board- he's more Sky than storm or cloud, and more storm than cloud, but he's picky about his elements. He doesn't actually HAVE any for a long while. He hid the soft nature of his sky, his desire to bring people together, to love and be loved, to thrive at the heart of a family behind his storm. The drive to survive, to do what's needed to keep going. It makes him prickly and makes him lash out, keep himself safe. And when he settles? When he trusts? That's when the Sky in him starts showing- all happy, bubbly magic and the desire to protect his city, his home, the people- thats all Sky.

Worse? He was starting to harmonize with Dick and B- it's part of why B went so off the rails- aside from that was a Cloud's child and all Flame types are deeply protective of children.

The Cloud and Storm in him twines with that Sky possessiveness and pushes him to ACT, to carve out his territory and keep his rules for his territory enforced and God help you if you step on his toes. The Pit hitting all that while he wasn't all there just made his instincts hit survival mode so hard and fast he was kinda feral and lashing out and made it MESSY.

Tim, my beloved, is Sparking Mist. Mostly Mist- a Classic- and an Inverted Lighting. He's all about his chosen family, doing his best to help them thrive. Hiding them, lying, arranging the playing field. He'll manipulate and redirect whatever and whoever he needs to, to stack the deck as he wants. And for the better of his family that includes his family. He will do all that he can to redirect dangers to his chosen, and will stand as shield and foundation when all else is falling apart. When the chips are down, Tim is THERE, and he's 30 steps ahead of everyone else whenever he sets his attention on things.

Damian my darling boy- he's Cloudy for sure- Ironically Inverted in my head, and surprisingly my brain actually assigns Inverted Rain to him with a hint of Mist.

He's possessive, territorial. and so very driven. He takes after his father in that. It also plays into why he clashes with Tim so hard- he considers Robin his (partly due to his mother's stories and demands) and Tim stepped all OVER those instincts. It's also why they took so long to get along- they had to soothe both of their instincts, which the other poked. Now as for torrential downpour of rain- he's a force of nature. When he settles into himself and grows fully, he's going be a FORCE. And he's going to be prickly, but also I absolutely believe he's so very good at soothing and calming other people down in his family. It just takes a while to get past the Prince and Demon's Heir attitude. But once you're HIS? He'll take care of you. He'll just blush about it.

ALFRED is a cloudy Rain in my head. Possessive and soothing, a island, a place of rest for his family- which is what he considers his territory alongside the manor itself. He's Classic Rain, Inverted Cloud. His bustles around his territory and sees it all function as well as he can, while valuing their freedom to choose what they're doing.

Cass is a Sun in my head! Inverted but only just with just a hint of inverted Cloud. She has to GO and she's deeply protective of her people. She's protective of what she sees as her home- Gotham, yes, but mostly the people. She protects Gotham because its her people's home too. It's part of what drives her to read and learn her chosen so well, to keep track of them. She's full of a kind of wanderlust, which is also part of what drives her back and forth between Hong Kong and Gotham too.

Steph...hmm. Definitely a classic Storm. All that drive and obsessive desire to pin her father, and being willing to stand up to a cloud, to the Bat for it? It fits in my head for sure. Also that impulsive desire to do things without QUITE thinking it through fitting in with that drive/obsession.

Duke fits Classic Sun in my head, and also Rain. Focused, driven, a good head on his shoulders. Relatively steady, reliable, supportive. A little wild at the edges and when he locks in he LOCKS IN.

When KHR havea remake (yup, I am still delusional since 2019 waiting for this, call me Sawada Nana) and became more popular, we should put Flame Type in your bios like other do with Hogwart houses and Zodiac Signs

How to tell what flame type someone is

Sky:

Trying their best, doesn't know what they're doing

Storm:

Will start fights over literally nothing, probably a bottom but will deny it

Rain:

Has aproxamately one (1) braincell, mom friend

Lightning:

Likes to complain, probably short

Sun:

Has a workout routine, doesn't really know what's going on but is participating enthusiastically

Mist:

Bitch, Probably owns a "Baby Slut" tshirt unironically

Cloud:

Big Dick Energy™

There was a KHR thing that I saw and accepted as a headcanon, I’d like to hear your thoughts about it. Basically, the flames someone has can dictate somethings about their personalities. Rain flames keeping peace and such. And Sky flames naturally attracting others to them. And Cloud flames being territorial. What do you think and do you have any headcanons like that?

Well, yes and no.

I see a lot of that being accepted as fanon, but we have (in canon) Reborn saying that personality may have nothing to do with it.  Or at least not as much as its made out to be.

A while ago, I mapped out all the traits characters showed and their fighting/aggression style.  I was able to find a few similarities, but for the most part….personality was all over the place.

I mean, look at Clouds for just a taste of that.  At a glance, we have Skull and Hibari.  Both are incredibly different.  They do have something in common though.  

They are set in their ways and seem incapable of change (on a base level).  

Look at Hibari when anyone tries to step in and train him.  He keeps doing things on his own terms and powers up in his own way.  He really doesn’t give a damn what anyone says.

And Skull?  Watch when anyone tries to tell him his strategy isn’t working.  He ignores it and keeps on with what he’s doing in his own way.  He never once changes.  

Other characters show these traits, but not to the extent they do.  Gokudera certainly shows some of these traits (we’ve seen him resist training by others, though he ultimately accepts parts of it).  That makes sense.  He has some Cloud flames, though they aren’t his primary.  

Another trait of Cloud flames: They had being told what to do or controlled.

This may be their most notable trait and it’s almost more of a philosophy.  Clouds in KHR resist because it’s in their nature.  

So, flames, to me, don’t truly control personality.  They are reflections of a person’s core beliefs and nature.  

On a related note, I know another fanon theory is that flames are genetic.  This sort of ties into what I think.

I believe flames are somewhat genetic.  It’s entirely possible.  Genetics is a weird and complicated topic.  Even on a basic level, like eye color.

I believe flames are passed on genetically.  I’m not going to pretend that I fully understand it.  My genetics class was confusing af.  But, I believe some of those passed on flames come to prominence as they grow.  It usually becomes set pretty early.  Any other secondary flames and such lie dormant until found and utilized (hence why I believe more people have secondary flames than we are shown).  

Look at Lal.  She was a rain flame originally.  But when we meet her, she has Cloud and Mist flames.  Both of these do not seem as strong as her original Rain flames.  

So, basically flames are a strange and complicated topic.

I believe they have a genetic basis but that doesn’t have the final say.

Their reflection on personality is, at most, minimal.  After all, personalities are very wide spread among the flame types.  

Flames are reflections of a person’s core beliefs and traits.

A person’s history and upbringing have more play on a person’s personality than flames.

Edit:

The part in both the manga and anime of the different flame types having certain roles (the rain that washes everything clean and such) are, what I believe to be, creations of people in the universe.  

Those sayings were created after people saw the roles the first generation Vongola guardians played.  The flames do not bind anyone to those roles, but can make someone predisposed to those roles (by beliefs or traits).

More Flame Theories

Another reason I don't put too much stock in the "Roles in the Family" thing is due to it not showing up on the wiki.  The main things focused on are "Characteristic" and "Ability".

Like Rain:

Characteristic: Calm

Ability: Appeasement and dulling

That can be interpreted so many ways.  Characteristic for me is a basic way of seeing what the flame is supposed to do on that battlefield.  It calms thing down by that appeasement.  How the rain flames slow thing down.

Storms are a destructive force on the battlefield.  It gets that done through destruction.

Skies bring harmony to troops on the field in through harmony again.

Lightning is wierd  It really hardens the lines of troops though.  Hardens the defense through both offensive and defensive means.

Cloud produces propagation on the field.  More and more people and weapons and general MORE.  This is done through obvious means.

Same with Mist.  They construct.

This is why I like Verde and Mukuro now that I think about it.  I was just thinking that a Mist/Lightning duo would be awesome.  Mists construct the illusions and Lightning flames are brought into play to harden that illusion and give it a real world affect.   (Maybe that’s how Verde’s device worked in that arc.  If you mixed the two flames....  That would explain why they were deconstructed after a while.)

Tony and Flames

I’ve got KHR (Katekyo Hitman Reborn) on the brain so I’ve been going through some fanfics when I wondered what Flame type Tony would be. And I immediately thought that he’d be a Sky, not the door mat type or the conquering type but the middling type. The kind that is distractedly, quietly charismatic (something that anyone can’t quite see) and seemingly harmless but when he goes to battle, when he goes to war.

Honey, he leads the charge and razes the ground; salting the earth behind him for good measure. Mercy is an outstretched hand only when he thinks you need it, when he thinks of you as someone who could rise from the ashes stronger than ever.

But he would never be an active flame, more a latent one and that is his strength. You never see him coming but you’ll certainly feel the effects. His secondary Flame would be Sun but he’d be the brainy type, not the brawny because that’s what works for him. Activation is something that certainly suits him as much as the Sky’s Harmony.

Tertiary Flames...hmm, I think it’s either a toss up between Lightening or Mist. Since Mist is Construction and Lightening is Hardening and they seem to suit him so well. Or they could be equal strength. Then it’s Cloud, Storm and Rain.

Though if he ever Shattered then he’d be a Misty Sun and...well, that’s just more chaos for his enemies and a little less for his allies. Can’t discount the flip-side of the Flame properties either.

Sky is Harmony, a very passive trait that works more with a group, a positive feed back loop if you will. Though Shivani’s fic Welkin does mention using it for other things such as ensuring that food/drink isn’t poisoned and monitoring an immediate environment. It’s opposite quality would be Discord. And Tony would figure it out, and quickly too. He’d never ever use it if he could (or was ever Activated) but if he had to? He’d do it and he’d hate himself for it.

Quick rundown on the authors and stories that influenced my HCs on KHR and Flame theory. Shivani’s Welkin is a good one; reighost is, well, a ghost but you can find more work on their partner’s stuff, Araceil; Ume no Mai’s Black Sky and Assoc.s is good too. Lots of theory, heavy reading. Not to mention Shadowblayze’s work. There might be a few more that I’m forgetting but I’ll reblog it later or someone else will likely pipe up.

Flame Types Explained

I swear that my headcanons on what makes people a certain flame were not just pulled out of thin air.  Re-watching/re-reading KHR for who know what time, I noticed that Reborn made a comment that implied the flames were not based on personality at all (or at least very little).

I tried to think of what made all the users had in common.  Mist was easiest to start with.  Every Mist user in the series uses illusions even if they use other weapons.  But then I noticed they also shared other things in common.  The most powerful ones in the series seem to be some sort of psychic or implied to be psychic. 

I immediately set about making a chart that sorted all the characters that have the flames into categories based off flame type.  It made it very clear that the flames were not based off personality.

Look at Clouds.  You have Hibari, Iris, Skull, and Kikyo.   Al with different personalities, but still cloud.  The same happened with Sun.  You have Irie, Ryohei, Reborn, and Daisy.  All very different again.   Lightning: Gamma, Lambo, Ape, Verde.

I figured they tended to have similar fighting styles though, or at least tendencies towards certain things.   I narrowed it down to the most basic stuff that I thought could be used to identify someone’s flame type.

So, that’s how I ended up coming to the conclusions I did with the flame types.   Just in case anyone was curious.
