Posted this on Twitter, might as well drop it here too… yes, that’s evil Flapjack… and yes, his name is Waffle
(Some very early sketches )
Uh... So I drew some Marvelous Misadventures of Flapjack fan art ⚓
The creator if this great cartoon once said that Flapjack becomes a great adventurer by finding everything EXCEPT Candy Island, so I decided to draw Captain Flapjack.
(look under the cut if you want the headcanon lore and see why Sally Syrup is here too lmao)
Avatar: the last airbender has to be one of the most overrated animated series ever.
The series it's fantastic, what bothers me it's how people always feel the need to bring up the series in any conversation when you want to talk about animation.
"This series is not that good, it's not like avatar"
"I didn't like the ending of this series, it not like avatar"
"The characters arcs are a mess, it's not like avatar"
Guys.. the are other good animated series(Western and Anime) besides Avatar. And i have seen series that i liked more than Avatar the last airbender.
The series had it's cultural impact but as far as know it didn't change animation forever. Series that did this in western animation were flapjack and adventure time. They really changed the way cartoons were written and their narrative. And adventure time pushed to tackle difficult themes that cartoons didn't tackle before.
This has become so annoying for me to the point i'm starting to hate the series. And i really enjoyed ATLA.
The last time i have seen someone criticized the series many people quickly jump to defend it. It's like it's on a pedestal where no one can touch it or say anything bad of it.
Even when i watched the series i knew it wasn't perfect.. like.. there a few episodes that i found a bit boring. And that Lion turtle.. oh my gosh..
Not to mention Fire lord Ozai has to be one of least memorable villains ever. I don't even remember him having personality at all. Other shows i have watched they bother giving the big bad characterization. Even The Lich from adventure time was more interesting than Ozai.
I usually i like talking about SU but i know when to give a bit of credit to other series too.
