Welcome back to my 200 Years of Beauty series!
I am so excited about this style! This week is 1928 which mean flapper style hair and makeup. This was when clothing, makeup, and hair really saw a huge shift. Dresses got shorter and less fitting. Makeup was easily available and wearing it was in style. Hair was shorter and wavy. Cars, home phones, home electricity, and movies were becoming popular. Everything was in high demand after the war and the media shifted to celebrities and sports.
Women were becoming more powerful with the right to vote and were seeking higher educations. They smoked, drank, and liked to party. Jobs made them more independent and they set their own rules. Their knowledge of sex increased and they claimed their bodies as their own and did what they wanted.
Makeup
Red lips and smoky eyes were the in thing. The natural look was out the window and you could buy makeup in the stores without feeling shamed. My base makeup is the same as all my other looks. For my eyes, I did a smokey eye only using black shadow and a bronze shimmer. I used my dupe for the Jaclyn Hill palette by Beauty Glazed. I concentrated the black on the outer corner and smoked it out all other the eyes leaving a small bare spot in the center. That where I applied the bronze color. I also spoked out the lower lash line and applied mascara to both upper and lower lashes. I did use falsies with this look. I used Ardell magnetic accent lashes 002. The lip is ColourPop Creeper with a clear gloss from NUSKIN (it will make your teeth look whiter too). I did exaggerate by cupids bow a bit to make it look a bit pointed.
Hair
This is a style that even long hair girls can do and its really easy to do. It does require curling your hair and doing something like pin curls, but it’s still easy. Shorter hair was really in for a lot of women because long hair had been a thing that men had long said was right.
You will need:
Bobby pins
Small hair ties
A small curling iron
For long hair like mine split your hair into 2 sections and clip the top one away. Make to braids out of the bottom section and pin them in a flat bun on the back of your head. Let the top section down, do a side part, and curl small sections away from your face. I kept my iron horizontal and curled the hair up. To make sure it all curls start near the scalp and curl, slide down the strand without unclamping all the way and curl up to the starting point. Continue to ends and curl all the way up. You should have a nice ringlet. Carefully roll it up and pin flat against your head. I had 2 rows on each side. Let them cool completely (I did my makeup while letting them cool). Once they have cooled and set unpin and comb them out gently. If your hair isn’t the length you want, tease the hair and pin ends to that bun in the back. I only had to pin a couple of curls. Tie a ribbon or put on a headband like I have and you are done.
