9. were there any alternative versions of this fic?

yes!! there were a few actually. I was originally gonna make flares a 2009 au where most things were the same but dan had fibro when they met which contributed to his youtube obsession. then I started a version set in 2017 where dan developed fibro gradually, where it would be more about adjusting within an established relationship. then I started one set in like 2012, with the same general idea. and then I started the version of flares that got published, and it flowed the best and had the most fun ideas to explore, so I went with that!!

4. what’s your favourite line of dialogue?

fair warning this is a 110k word fic so I didn’t go through the whole thing but off the top of my head I really like:

“I don’t want to die,” he blurts.

Phil squeezes his whole body, pulling him even closer. “I know.”

“But you don’t,” says Dan. “You– I didn’t used to care and now I do and it sucks because I’m terrified and I don’t know how to fix it except to wait.”

I havnt started flares yet but I just wanted you to know that, I have been so interested in your story since day one and I mind care when you update. I don’t want you to worry. But do know that I get excited everything I see a new chapter pop up. I am waiting till it’s complete, it’s a rule of mine. I don’t want you to give into thinking it’s bad, I’ve not even started and knowing that this fic means so much to you, I KNOW it’s amazing and will be important. Love you 💜 and take care

if you're not uncomfortable i'd like to see how they'd have their first time, even if it's just a discussion like phil asks if he'd ever want to and they talk candidly and open about it and if dan would hurt or if he's ever been interested in sex at all

I’ve been doing tests for like 3 years now with no results on what’s wrong with me but I related to dan hardcore in flares and asked my doctor to refer me to a specialist I’m for fibro cause I think that’s the only logical answer for my pain so thank you for writing that beautiful wonderful peace of art and helping me find the courage to want more help and find an answer

i’m crying :(( god I’m so glad my little story could help you like that at all. I really hope seeing the specialist helps, either with by giving  you a fibro diagnosis or giving you new avenues to seek help 💛💛💛
