Bart Allen’s problem was that he refused to take things slowly. He was always doing things as fast as he could.
You on the other hand, preferred to take your time. You were patient and observant and pretty much Bart’s opposite.
And that’s why it worked so damn well.
Bart walked with you, hand in hand across a bridge that stretched across a creek. He had been reluctant to go on a date with you to the park. It wasn’t that he didn’t like spending time with you, or even that it didn’t sound fun. But he preferred fast paced dates with rollercoasters and swimming and sightseeing. Despite all that, he couldn’t help but admire your love for your surroundings. How you loved the simple parts of life.
It was mid-autumn, and the weather in Central City had begun to be chilly, and the leaves on the trees had turned vibrant shades of orange and red.
Bart glanced over as he felt your hand slip from his. You stood up on the bottom support beam of the bridge and leaned slightly over the rail.
“Careful, babe,” Bart cautioned, placing his hands on your waist to keep you from falling into the still water.
“Yeah,” you acknowledged, distracted by the leaves falling into the water, creating ripples in the otherwise gentle creek.
Bart smiled as he watched you find beauty in even the smallest parts of your surroundings. It was like falling in love all over again.
Bart’s thoughts took over as he watched you, making sure you didn’t fall.
He thought about how different his future was from this vibrant world, and how he wanted to fight to give you the future you deserved. How he wanted you to have a world that was beautiful. A world where you could take your time and appreciate what was around you.
How maybe he was willing to slow down, if only for you.
Yeah. Falling in love was definitely worth slowing down for.
