Bart has done a lot of stupid things. He argued he had done enough crash things to make up for the stupid, but today was proof of the opposite.
He slipped on the ice in the cave, sliding hard into a wall. Pain flared through his entire body as he moaned. “I’m moded.”
A shaky gasp came from the other side of the cave. He sat up suddenly, zooming to find the origin of the gasp.
The cave had a stream. Fallen rocks and snow covered the ground from the avalanche Bart caused when he sped to distract the bad guys. He knew he was lucky he had fallen into this cave instead of being buried under hundreds of tons of debris.
Buzzing around the cave, time stopped for Bart when he caught a flash of red. It was the red of your suit. He would have known it anywhere. He flew to the rock, choking when he saw you were trapped under the rock.
“B...Bart? Is that you?” you asked softly, coughing. He moved around the rock to see you on the other side with your leg trapped underneath it.
“(Y/N)!” Bart knelt down next to you, lifting your head to place it in his lap. “I’msosorry.Thiswasallmyfault.Iwasdumbandcausedtheavalanchebutyoushouldn’thavebeenhere.I’mfeelingthemodenow...”
You lifted your hand and pressed it against his mouth. “Slow down.” You coughed hard. “Is my leg under the rock?”
Bart blinked, his heart fluttering at the fact you were touching his lips. He glanced at your leg. His stomach twisted at the sight. “Yeah, but you’ll be okay. We’ll figure this out.”
“I can’t feel my leg.” You closed your eyes, letting out a deep breath. “It doesn’t hurt though, so I guess that’s good.” A weak smile pulled at your lips. Bart’s stomach dropped at the sight. “Where are we?”
“In a cave. We fell in when the avalanche hit.” Bart swallowed. “I’m so sorry, (Y/N). If I had known you were there, I wouldn’t have started it.”
You opened your eyes, swallowing hard. “It’s not your fault. You stopped the bad guys. That’s what matters.” You touched your ear. “Do you have your comm still? Can you turn on the SOS signal so the others can find us?”
Bart nodded, touching his ear and activating the distress signal with three taps. “They should find us soon.” You shivered. He could feel how cold you were. “Here let me.” He vibrated slightly to warm you up.
“Thanks.” You closed your eyes again. Bart’s brain moved fast, taking in your condition. Moving the rock without medical attention here could mean you would lose your leg. He swallowed hard at the thought. Out of all the people in the world that he had to hurt, it had to be you. The one he had the hugest crush on.
“Stay awake, (Y/N). I’ll be moded if you go into shock.” Bart chuckled when you opened your eyes to look up at him.
“It’s getting hard.” You sighed, turning your head slightly to look around the cave. “If I wasn’t trapped, this would be a beautiful sight.”
Bart kept his gaze on you. “Yeah, beautiful.” He grinned when you looked back at him. A small smile pulled at your lips. “Let’s talk. That will help you stay awake, right?”
“Should. What should we talk about?” You reached out to take his hand in yours. He vibrated it gently, warming it. “How about the time you were so excited to get ice cream that your cone got shoved into Wally’s face?”
Bart chuckled humorlessly. “Yeah, that was crash.” He bit his lip, remembering how panicked he was when Wally offered to buy you an ice cream. You were looking at Wally with those big eyes. Bart couldn’t handle it and did the first thing to come to mind.
“Or that time my hat blew off my head and you ran through poison oak to get it?” You laughed softly before wincing when you jolted your body too much. Bart smiled, remembering how painful it was. However, your joy at getting your hat back was worth it.
“I didn’t mind it.” He gently brushed a strand of your hair from your face. An lightbulb went off in his head. “Hey, let’s play a game.” He kept the smile on his face even as he noticed the color was draining a little from yours.
“Okay.” You took a shaky breath, closing your eyes again. Your hand went limp in his. “What kind of game?”
Bart hummed, trying to stay positive and not freak out. The team would be here soon. They were coming, even if no one gave a verbal response yet to the distress call. “How about Bang, Marry, Kill?”
“What?” Your eyes flew open in surprise. “Seriously?”
“Yeah, it will keep our minds off this.” Bart smirked, tapping your nose as he kept gently vibrating to keep you warm. “It will be crash. I’ll go first.” He thought for a moment. “How about the big three, Superman, Batman, Wonder Woman?”
Bart noticed you blushed. “Okay.” You took a deep breath. “I guess I’d bang Batman, marry Wonder Woman, and kill Superman.” You snickered softly. “Don’t tell anyone I said that.”
“Ooo, I wonder if Conner knows that.” He held you closer as an ice cold breeze flew through the cave. The rock blocked it from you, but Bart took it at full force.
“Hush.” You glared at him. “Now what’s your choice?”
Bart blushed slightly. “Well, I don’t know. I guess I would bang Wonder Woman, marry Superman, and kill Batman.”
You laughed hard before gasped in pain. “Ow.” You pressed your hand against your side. “Don’t make me laugh like that.”
“Sorry.” He bit his lip. “Now you pick three people.”
“Okay.” You hummed. “How about the Green Lanterns? Hal, John, and Guy?”
“That’s easy. Bang Hal, marry John, and kill Guy.” Bart snorted. “You should make it harder than that.”
“Fair. Mine’s the same as yours.” You looked around the cave again. “Has anyone responded yet?”
“No, but they’re coming. Don’t worry.” He tightened his fingers around yours. “My turn again. How about...?” Bart blushed. Should he be this daring? If you both died here, he knew he would want to know. “Me, Jaime, and Cassie.”
You flinched in surprise, looking up into his eyes. Bart looked back at you with a hesitant smile on his face. “Wow, okay.” You blinked several times, your breaths seemed more shallow than before. “I would bang Cassie, marry you, and kill Jaime.”
Bart’s eyes widened. “Really?” He smirked. “And if it’s me, Wally, and Dick?”
“Bang Dick, because how could you not? Marry you, and kill Wally.” You smiled at him. “What about me, Gar, and M’gann?”
“Bang M’gann, marry you, and kill Gar.” Bart squeezed your hand. His heart threatened to explode in excitement.
“How about me, Dick, and Conner?” You shivered again, still looking at him with a sparkle in your eye.
“Bang Dick, marry you, and kill Conner.” Bart leaned down and whispered in your ear. “I will always marry you.”
You smiled, gasping a little. “I’ll always marry you too.” You patted his cheek weakly before your hand dropped to your chest. “Bart, I don’t think I’m going to make it.”
Bart’s eyes widened. “No! You will. They’ll be here soon.” He cupped your face in his hands. “Please. Just hold on.” Tears slipped down his cheeks without warning. He pressed his lips against yours. Your lips accepted his, but you didn’t return the kiss.
“It’s okay.” You whispered to him. “I just wish we figured out we liked each other sooner, so we could have had a date.” You licked your lips, panting softly. “Don’t feel the mode, Bart.”
“(Y/N).” Bart mumbled, kissing your cheek as you fell limp in his arms. He froze, pure panic flowing through him. He checked your pulse, sighing in relief when it was still there. His arms tightened around you, holding you close as he waited for the answer to the distress call to come.

“Bart, can you hear me?” Bart heard Wally’s voice close by. He slowly rose from the nightmare of you dying in his arms and opened his eyes. His eyes widened when he saw Wally kneeling down in front of him.
“What?” Bart jumped to his feet, knocking Wally on his butt. They were still in the cave. It was darker and colder than before. Bart could see his breath. “(Y/N)?” He turned to see Dick, Conner, Tim, and Cassie hovering around you a few feet away. “(Y/N)!” Bart started to zoom to you, but Wally grabbed him and pulled him down.
“Hey, let them help (Y/N). Calm down.” Wally soothed, pulling Bart into a hug. “You’re freezing, Bart.” Wally grabbed a Mylar blanket from the first aid kit and wrapped it around Bart. “Come on, let’s get you onto the Bioship.” He guided Bart to his feet.
“No. I can’t leave them.” Bart jerked away from Wally, stopping in horror as they prepared to lift the rock off your leg. “They told me that they would marry me. It was so crash.” He blinked, swallowing hard.
Wally looked confused. “What? Bart, you and (Y/N) aren’t even dating?” Wally mumbled, pulling Bart along to the ladder that led to Bioship. Bioship hovered just over the opening of the cave. “Come on. We need to get you on board now. Once they have (Y/N) out, we’ll have to move fast.”
Bart swallowed hard, gasping when Conner slowly lifted the rock. Dick, Cassie, and Tim pulled you out from under it. The sight of your leg made Bart pass out. Wally caught him just before he hit the floor.

“Woah,” someone said close by. Bart suddenly opened his eyes, sitting up and throwing up at the same time. Someone placed a bag over his mouth just in time. Everything around him was blurring. Bart never felt so confused. His only thought was of you.
“It’s okay,” Iris whispered in Bart’s ear. A hand rubbed his back. The bag was pulled away from his mouth and Bart turned to focus on her.
“Where’s (Y/N)?” Bart choked, his throat raw. A hand patted his knee, sending his attention over to Jay.
Jay smiled at him sadly. “They’re alive and stable for now.” He handed Bart a glass of water. Bart finally took in the rest of the room. They were in a hospital. Bart glanced down, blushing when he saw he was in a paper gown. “Relax.”
“Can I see them?” Bart slowly drank the water. His nose wrinkled when he tasted the puke in his mouth. “Please. I’d be feeling the mode until I do.”
“Once the doctor says it’s okay for you to move.” Jay took the empty glass from Bart. Iris pushed Bart to lay back down. “Relax.”
Bart groaned. “I’m moded.” He stared up at the ceiling. “Can you call the doctor now, please?” He looked at Iris, then Jay. “Pretty please?”
Jay sighed and shared a look with Iris. “I’ll go see if I can find him,” Iris said, leaving the room. Bart grinned, taping his finger on the bedside. He moved so fast, it was just a hum.
“Stop it.” Jay grabbed his hand. “Be patience, Bart.”
“Right, sorry.” He swallowed hard, pulling his hand out of Jay’s grasp. “Did (Y/N) lose their leg?” He remembered the sight of your leg once they got the rock off. Bile crept up his throat.
Jay sighed, closing his eyes. “Yes. There wasn’t a way to repair the damage.” He opened his eyes, frowning at Bart. Bart didn’t realize until he saw Jay’s frown that he had tears running down his cheeks. “It’s not your fault.”
“But it is. I’m the one who caused the avalanche without checking to make sure everyone was off the mountain.” Bart gripped at blankets. His body shook uncontrollably. Jay reached out and pulled Bart into his arms.
“Hush. Don’t dwell on that now. (Y/N) is fine, you are fine. That is what’s important.” Jay rocked Bart gently. Bart hid his face into Jay’s shoulder, hoping the doctor would show up soon.

Once the doctor gave him the okay and he procured a pair of pants and a shirt, Bart and Jay walked down the hall toward the ICU unit. “Do you want to stop in the gift shop?” Jay asked, hands in his pockets.
Bart blinked in surprise. He was so focused on getting to you that he didn’t notice they had even passed the gift shop. “Why?” He eyed one of the stuffed animals inside and blushed at the sight. “Would it be crash to get (Y/N) something?”
“Yes, it would.” Jay stepped inside and walked around. Bart followed him, going straight toward the stuffed animal that caught his eye. It reminded him of the one he saw in your room the one time he had been over to your house. Jay made his way back to Bart’s side. “Do you want to give (Y/N) that?”
Bart nodded, swallowing hard as he picked it up. “I bet (Y/N) already has a lot of stuff though.” He blinked. “What if they don’t want to see me?”
“They’ll want to see you.” Jay took the animal. He purchased it quickly and led Bart back out. “Come on, let’s get you down there. The doctor said you couldn’t be out of your room too long.”
“I’m moded.” He dragged his feet. His stomach sank in dread. You wouldn’t be able to forgive him. He basically cut off your leg himself. How could he ever get over the fact he caused you to lose your leg?
“Calm down.” They stopped outside the door. Jay knocked. Bart held his breath when he heard your voice telling them to go in. “I’ll stay out here. Go on,” Jay whispered, opening the door and pushing Bart inside when he didn’t move.
Bart stumbled in, gasping when he saw the monitors around you. Cassie was sitting on the edge of your bed, showing you a magazine. You looked fine, except for the missing lump under the blanket. Bart stared at it, blood draining out of his face.
You brightened at the sight of him. “Hey. You’re okay?” You reached out a hand to him. Bart stayed where he was, squeezing the stuffed animal tightly in his hands as he began to shake.
“I’ll leave you two alone.” Cassie quickly left the room. She elbowed Bart on the way out. “Snap out of it.”
Bart shook his head at the sound of the closing door. “Bart, come sit down.” You patted your bedside. “Don’t blame yourself.”
He zoomed, suddenly beside you. “Here.” He shoved the stuffed animal in your arms. “I’msosorry.Imessedupsobad.Modedbeyondbelief...”
“Stop it.” You pressed your hand against his lips. He stopped talking. His lips buzzed at the touch of your finger. “It’s not your fault.” You smiled at him brighter. “Bart, you saved my life. I would have froze to death if you didn’t stay close to keep me warm.” You pulled your hand away to take his hand. The stuffed animal sat in your lap like it belonged there.
“But your leg?” He glanced at the place where your leg should have been.
“It’s fine.” You winced suddenly. Bart’s eyes widened. “No, you’re fine. It’s just phantom pain. The doctor said that would be a thing.” You gave him a shaky smile. “They said I’m going to get a robotic leg. I’ll be a cyborg.” You giggled, trying to stay positive.
“That’s...crash.” Bart tried to smile back at you, but failed. He sighed. “If you take back the marry, bang, kill game, I’ll understand.”
“What?” You squeezed his hand. He looked at you in disbelief. All he saw was love in your eyes. “Nah, I’ll always marry you, Bart Allen. No matter who the other two are.” You swung your entwined hands back and forth. “I hope your thoughts haven’t changed just because I’ll be a cyborg.”
Bart jumped, vibrating slightly. “No, of course not. You’re crash. You’ll always be crash.” He grinned for real finally. “Once you’re up, we should go for ice cream or something?”
“I’d like that.” You leaned over and kissed his cheek. Bart swore his heart skipped several beats and spasmed in his chest. “And we can leave Wally at home. You won’t have to shove his ice cream in his face again just because he made me laugh.”
Bart chuckled nervously, running a hand through his hair. “Noted.” He super sped a kiss to your cheek. You closed your eyes at the feather light flutter of a kiss.
“Can you slow down and maybe move over a little?” you asked sweetly, tapping your lips. Bart couldn’t refuse you, slowing down so you could feel every moment of the kiss he pressed to your lips.
