Actually, Rede has no experience with civillians at all -- unless you counted the one his squad shot, which Rede didn't.
"But why?" he asked again, more plaintively. The idea that clones could be seen as a convenient avatar for the government in spite of their utter lack of power in it, he can just barely get his head around. That they might not need any reason at all? For all his unquestioning acceptance that his lot in life is to serve, Rede has never really had that moment of being treated as an unperson, an inferior, that most clones are all too familiar with.
"When natborns look at us, they see a mass-produced, replaceable scientific creation. With our armor on, they don't even see flesh. We're droids to them," he explains, depression weighing down his words. It was hard to come to terms with when he first came to Coruscant, but it's not like it's gotten any easier. "The worst part is that we're replaceable. That just means we don't matter individually."
