💤 for maiah
It’s been three months since he brought Maiah in to live with him. Aside from their missions ( once or twice per month ), Riley couldn’t describe their friendship particularly close. He was usually out at the zoo or with other people and she was--- well, doing something; the boy never paid much attention to that.
Now it was late and he found himself re-reading the whole Sherlock Holmes collection. Whenever he felt stuck, reading these stories helped him to relax and find a new angle to his problems. It was a big couch and Riley liked to consider it his and that’s why he found it a bit... cringey whenever Maiah sat on there as well as if it was any other cheap piece of furniture, but at least she didn’t make any noise, she would just play video games or wander around her social media stuff in silence with him.
She was good company, though.
“Good evening”, he vaguely commented when he heard the door unlock. He didn’t like to say ‘good night’ unless he was going to sleep, so it didn’t matter if it was past midnight, a ‘good evening’ was still in order. His eyes didn’t move from the words he quickly absorbed and oh! This was his favorite part. His brain started to disconnect from reality, when he felt a change of weight on the couch and he lowered his book just to notice the small blonde climbing up next to him. “What--- what are you doing?”, he asks pushing himself as far as possible from her, but the back of the couch didn’t give him much more space for that. The girl mumbled something he didn’t catch and before he knew, he was being her very personal living pillow. Some minutes passed by as he wondered how to get rid of her cautiously, but the sudden warmth created by her body on his and the dim warm light of the lamp next to the couch made him yawn. Eventually, his mind started fogging and before he knew it, he had dropped the book on the carpet and spooned his hacker.
