Not quite as good as most of my other stuff but

It was admittedly a little rushed

It is late at night (almost midnight!!! EXCITE!!!) and I am tired

I’m still figuring out what on earth I’m doing with my tablet and new art program. I figure this is pretty good for only six days having had both.

So I’m pretty content with it regardless. Might do a redraw at some point when I’ve got a better hang of arting with these new tools.

Whoops, I wrote Bhaltairs angst.

Book 1/2 Finn has short hair. Book 3 Finn has long, braided hair. Finn is the only sibling other than Ro with grey eyes and blue hair. Ro always had her hair braided. There are some conclusions to be drawn from this, and they are sad.

Of all of their immediate family, Hero and Fionna are the only two with their hair and eye colour combination. This makes cause for many comments of the younger being the spitting image of the older at her age, for all that Finn’s two other sisters bear just as much resemblance but with different colouration.

(Really, Joey looks more like Ro. They both have their father’s hair. Finn has their mother’s. They take after these respective parents in length preferences as well. Finn has never had long hair, she always gets it cut short. Similarly, the last time Ro or Joey had short hair was when they were too young for it to have grown long yet)

There is a certain sense of camaradie between the two sisters. Neither of them love each other more than any of their other siblings - indeed, Finn has a tighter connection with the sisters she shares a birthday with than the one six years her senior - but the bond they have is a special one that they don’t share with the others.

(This is true of all the siblings, really. They all have a bond with each other that is different but no less important than their bond with any of the others)

When ice flies from a grieving, determined hand and steals away her sister for a time that might as well be forever to a ten year old, Finn feels like something inside of her has been frozen and then shattered. She cries and she cries and she cries with her family when they are told the news. She cries until it feels as though there is no liquid left in her body.

(When she goes to bed that night, she will be the only one who doesn’t cry herself to sleep. Rather, she will lie in her bed, wait until the rest of the house has gone silent, and then creep to the bathroom with a candle. She will pull the stool over to the sink and the mirror, stand on it and stare into her reflection in the candlelight, looking for the similarities between herself and her sister she has always been told are there. Her father will come in soon after, and carry her back to bed when she collapses into his arms sobbing.)

(All of the Bhaltairs will sleep in one room that night, curled up in Iris and Beathan’s bed, holding on to each other as though everybody else could disappear into the night, just like the eldest child has)

Three days after they are told what has happened to her sister, Finn is due a haircut. She won’t be up to leaving the house, and will decide to put it off. Her hair hasn’t really gotten that much longer, so it doesn’t need cut yet.

(She will say this the next time, and the next time, and the next time. Very soon, it will have been a year, two years, three, and she will not have had her hair cut. Nobody will tell her how much she looks like Ro. Nobody will have said that since the last time the eldest Bhaltair child was home)

Three years to the day after the ice, thirteen year old Finn will walk down a hallway. She will freeze, a brief glimpse of disbelieving hope will steal across her face, and she will rapidly backstep.

Her face will fall, her eyes will fill with tears. She will reach out and brush a hand against the glass of the mirror, tracing the reflection of her jawline and then down the braid of her now much longer hair hanging over her shoulder. She will stare at grey eyes brimming with tears, blink fiercly and turn away, flicking the braid down her back as she does so.

For a few, brief seconds, she will have thought she saw her sister out of the corner of her eye.
