Hot take: the Flatliners remake is actually decent. People constantly complain that it “isn’t even the same” when people ALSO complain about movie remakes being soulless copies. I think that the movie does a good job at keeping the core concept (death) and the main theme (karma, sorta) but it also gives us a refreshing NEW take on these topics, this is what a remake should be. Similar to Friday the 13th (2001), it keeps the same main concepts but gives us a new perspective and interpretation. Am I saying either of these are as good as the originals? Absolutely not. I am saying we should stop shitting on EVERY remake when some of them are decent. I can name several that attempt to do what Flatliners did but wayyy worse; Rob Zombie’s Halloween, Nightmare on Elm Street, My Bloody Valentine and Candyman are better examples of remakes that feel washed out and like they are actively trying to scream “hey look, its that franchise you like!! Pay us pls” ya know? Please lmk if you disagree and what your opinions are, I’m interested in what others think about remakes in general.
