Here it is!
This is the outcome of my very first entirely self directed professional makeup project entitled, ‘Dystopian Cyberpunk’.
The negotiated submission intention was a 30 second art film (which unfortunately had to be cancelled as the outcome did not meet my expectations and didn’t fully express the theme as well as intended) and a magazine cover.
From commencing my research and the design process of the original makeup look right through to actually creating all of the pieces needed to transform my model into the character took me an accumulative total of around 2 months. The makeup look included; a self made custom bald cap to create the illusion of shaved back and sides, which also consisted of a piece of foundation wig lace in between the layers to cross-pin the wig piece into place, a set of four flat piece silicone prosthetics on forehead and jawline that I designed independently, sculpted, encapsulated and painted myself. Furthermore, I developed a dreadlock mohawk full lace wig piece that was composed by single knotting 360 degree all around and bulk knotting the center. I created a set of about 40 dreadlocks 40-50 inches in length with the crochet hook method using jumbo braid kanekalon synthetic hair in silver, which I spray painted gun metal grey to create an ombre effect. I then seamlessly dreaded these into the wig piece. I finished the look off with geometrical bold editorial fashion makeup. The application process took me 3 hours. The inspiration for my character design came from 70’s punk movements, the movies Mad Max, The Matrix, Ghost In The Shell, Star Trek alongside various other science fiction tv-shows. The biggest influence however comes from the German cyber goth scene I grew up with as a teenager.
The magazine cover is inspired by the ‘’Dark Beauty Magazine’’. I generated this fictional magazine cover, to observe how the character would fit in within a professional context.
Big thank you to Lucinda, Stefano, Charlie and Beth without you guys I could not have done it! <3
